[Cytogenetic characteristics of the uterine cervical epithelium in inflammatory diseases].

Functional status of epithelial cells at inflammatory cervical pathologies has been studied with the use of cytogenetic method of detection of chromosome nucleolar organizer regions. The highest level of rRNA proliferation and synthesis has been detected in cylindrical epithelial cells using the indexes of compact and transitional nucleolonemic types of nucleolar organizer regions, a higher level--in squamous cells of intermediate type, and the lowest one in squamous epithelium of superficial type.

APOBEC3G is increasingly expressed on the human uterine cervical intraepithelial neoplasia along with disease progression.

PROBLEM: APOBEC3G (A3G) is a cytidine deaminase that exhibits antiviral activity by introducing C-to-T hypermutation in viral DNA. We recently observed the distinct presence of C-to-T hypermutation of human papillomavirus DNA in uterine cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), suggesting the possible involvement of A3G in the mutation-inducing process. Consequently, we investigated the association of A3G expression with CIN progression in this study. METHOD OF STUDY: Patients who had undergone cervical conization due to CIN1 (n=11), CIN2 (n=9), CIN3 (n=12), and micro-invasive squamous cell c

Placental form of glutathione S-transferase in normal and diseased human uterine cervical mucosa.

Expression of the human placental form of glutathione S-transferase (GST-pi), an enzyme proposed as a marker for human and experimental neoplasia, was immunohistochemically evaluated in 51 samples of 'normal' and diseased adult human uterine cervix. Five fetal uteri were also studied. GST-pi positivity was detected in 54, 92, 95 and 83% of the 'normal', non-neoplastic, cervical intra-epithelial neoplasia (CIN) and cancer cases respectively. All five fetal uteri and the positive 'normal' adult cases presented cells immunostained for GST-pi throughout the thickness of the mucosa, including the b

Evaluation of smears obtained by cervical scraping and an endocervical swab in the diagnosis of neoplastic disease of the uterine cervix.

A study of the supplementary value of an endocervical swab smear in addition to cervical scraping in the cytological diagnosis of cervical neoplasias is presented. The two sampling techniques were applied to a population with a high prevalence of neoplastic cervical disease. The endocervical swab smear was a useful adjunct in the detection of mild and moderate dysplasia, and a combination of the two sampling methods decreased the false negative rate in the diagnosis of intraepithelial, as well as invasive neoplasia. In the sphere of specific cytological diagnosis cervical scraping was found to

Association between pelvic inflammatory disease and risk of ovarian, uterine, cervical, and vaginal cancers-a meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: The present meta-analysis aims to investigate a potential link between pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and an increased risk of genitourinary cancers (ovarian, cervical, uterus, and vagina cancers). While previous research has hinted at a possible link, this meta-analysis seeks to delve deeper into the available evidence. Understanding this association is crucial for preventive strategies and improving clinical management practices. METHODOLOGY: A comprehensive literature search was conducted across various databases, covering studies published between 2016 and 2024. We

Mendelian randomization analysis reveals genetic evidence for a causal link between inflammatory bowel disease and uterine cervical neoplasms.

BACKGROUND: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has been reported to be associated with risk of uterine cervical neoplasm. We aimed to evaluate the causal relationship between IBD and uterine cervical neoplasm using a bidirectional Mendelian randomization analysis. METHODS: We derived instrumental variables for IBD, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, from the IEU Open genome-wide association study (GWAS) database, and for the histological subtypes of uterine cervical neoplasm from the FinnGen repository's GWAS data. The collected GWAS data predominantly represent individuals of Eu

Aberrant DNA methylation of DLX4 and SIM1 is a predictive marker for disease progression of uterine cervical low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion.

BACKGROUND: A few uterine cervical low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSILs) are known to progress with high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV). METHODS: One hundred and thirteen patients were classified into four groups according to their cervical cytology, hrHPV infection, and follow up. Cytology samples were examined for aberrant DNA methylation of DLX4 and SIM1 genes and protein expressions. CaSki cells were treated with 5-Aza-2'-deoxycytidine (5-aza-dC). RESULTS: Group 1 was negative for intraepithelial lesions or malignancies. LSIL in group 2 showed a continuance of LSIL for lo

The disease stage-associated imbalance of Th1/Th2 and Th17/Treg in uterine cervical cancer patients and their recovery with the reduction of tumor burden.

BACKGROUND: Nearly all uterine cervical cancer (UCC) cases result from human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. After high-risk HPV infection, most HPV infections are naturally cleared by humoral and cell-mediated immune responses. Thus, cervical lesions of only few patients progress into cervical cancer via cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and lead to persistent oncogenic HPV infection. This suggests that immunoregulation plays an instrumental role in the carcinogenesis. However, there was a few studies on the relation between the immunologic dissonance and clinical characteristics of UC

[Analysis of the levels of CA125, CEA and CA19-9 in the cervical mucus samples obtained at various phases of the menstrual cycle and with inflammatory diseases of the uterine cervix].

Recently, normal cervical glandular cells have been reported to synthesize and secrete CA125 as a common constituent of normal cervical mucus. However, the levels of CA125 in the cervical mucus samples during the menstrual cycle and with cervical inflammatory diseases have not been determined. Therefore, we measured CA125 in cervical mucus samples in various phases of the menstrual cycle and in patients with cervical polyp or vaginitis. In addition to CA125, CEA and CA19-9 were also examined in the same samples. CA125 levels in the mucus samples of women (45 cases) without any gynecologic diso

Uterine cervical non-gonococcal and non-chlamydial bacterial flora and its antibiotic sensitivity in women with pelvic inflammatory disease: did it vary over 20 years?

BACKGROUND: Although the presence of bacteria in the cervix is not a sign of disease, the majority of pathogens involved in pelvic inflammatory disease originate from this "normal" flora. OBJECTIVES: To assess the distribution of cervical nongonococcal and non-chlamydial bacteria in hospitalized women with PID and the bacteria's antibiotic sensitivity. METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated the cultures obtained from the uterine cervix over a 1 year period (2008) at Wolfson Medical Center, Holon. A novel approach with concomitant laparoscopic uterine artery ligation and D&C as initial treatment for complicated gestational trophoblast disease in cesarean scar and cervical ectopic pregnancies.

OBJECTIVE: Gestational trophoblast disease (GTD) in low-lying implantation ectopic pregnancy (LLIEP) is extremely rare. Surgical removal of GTD lesions which is the initial treatment of choice carries a high risk of intraoperative massive bleeding. Adequate management is challenging and inconclusive. CASE REPORT: We present two unusual cases with a diagnosis of GTD in advanced LLIEP. The first case had choriocarcinoma in cesarean scar and the second case had mole pregnancy in cervix. Both cases were managed with laparoscopy uterine artery ligations followed by transvaginal intrauterine curett
