Enzymatic and Non-Enzymatic decolorization of synthetic dyes using spent mushroom substrate.

Conventional wastewater treatment technologies exhibit limited cost-effectiveness for dye removal. This study investigated the decolorization efficacy and adsorption behavior of spent mushroom substrate (SMS) and its aqueous extract (SMS-T) toward ten synthetic dyes, both before and after thermal treatment. SMS achieved total decolorization rates of 72.65-97.84% across the tested dyes. Adsorption by the SMS matrix accounted for only 0.68-36.46% of decolorization for Bromophenol Blue, Malachite Green, Methylene Blue, Rose Bengal, and Remazol Brilliant Blue R, substantially lower than the differ

Correlative insights into the enhanced reactivity of sulfidated zero-valent iron from different origins for the decolorization of various azo dyes under aerobic conditions.

The sulfidation of zero-valent iron (S-ZVI) has emerged as an effective strategy to enhance reactivity for contaminants removal, yet the underlying mechanisms remain incompletely understood. This study explores the enhanced reactivity of S-ZVI derived from five different commercial sources in the aerobic removal of four representative azo dyes. Sulfidation converts the passive Fe-oxide film into a conductive FeSx layer, thereby facilitating interfacial electron transfer from the Fe0 core to adsorbed dye molecules, and promoting sustained Fe(II) regeneration for decolorization of azo dyes. Decolorization and treatment of Kokuto-shochu distillery wastewater by the combination treatment involving biodecolorization and biotreatment by Penicillium oxalicum d, physical decolorization by ozonation and treatment by activated sludge.

Kokuto-shochu is a traditional Japanese distilled liquor made from brown sugar. Kokuto-shochu distillery wastewater (KDW) contains high concentrations of organic compounds and brown pigments (called molasses pigments) which are hardly decolorized by general biological wastewater treatment. A fungus, Penicillium oxalicum d, which we isolated in a previous study, decolorizes 47% of the color from KDW without the addition of any nutrients. P. oxalicum d decolorizes KDW by absorbing the pigments into its mycelia. Here we describe a KDW treatment system that combines biodecolorization and biotreatm

Harnessing iron materials for enhanced decolorization of azo dye wastewater: A comprehensive review.

Highly colored azo dye-contaminated wastewater poses significant environmental threats and requires effective treatment before discharge. The anaerobic azo dye treatment method is a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution, while its time-consuming and inefficient processes present substantial challenges for industrial scaling. Thus, the use of iron materials presents a promising alternative. Laboratory studies have demonstrated that systems coupled with iron materials enhance the decolorization efficiency and reduce the processing time. To fully realize the potential of iron mater

Decolorization of Antarctic krill hydrolysate for salt reduction in surimi gel: improvement of taste, gel properties, and flavor profile.

This study developed an efficient decolorization process based on a GA-BP neural network for treating Antarctic krill hydrolysate. It achieved a decolorization rate of 93.31% while effectively preserving functional components such as peptides and amino acids. The decolorized hydrolysate (AKP) was applied as a salt substitute in low-salt surimi. The results demonstrated that AKP significantly altered the amino acid composition, with the level of umami amino acids increasing 5-fold and the content of 5'-GMP surging nearly 15-fold. Electronic tongue and sensory evaluation analysis confirmed that

Versatile laccase-mimicking enzyme for dye decolorization and tetracyclines identification upon a colorimetric array sensor.

In this study, the laccase-mimicking enzyme MnO2/Cu-BDC-His was synthesized by a facile procedure, and was applied in tetracycline antibiotics (TCs) identification and dye degradation. The MnO2/Cu-BDC-His nanozymes effectively recognized phenolic hydroxyl groups in TCs and catalyzed the generation of colored oxidation products with different characteristic absorbance peaks at 350 nm, 525 nm and 600 nm. Different TCs mixtures produced different absorbance intensities at the above wavelengths and exhibited cross-color responses. Consequently, a colorimetric array sensor for the simultaneous iden

ZnO, AgCl and AgCl/ZnO nanocomposites incorporated chitosan in the form of hydrogel beads for photocatalytic degradation of MB, E. coli and S. aureus.

Significant improvement of effective and low-cost decolorization and disinfecting technologies is required to address the problems created by dyes and dangerous microorganisms from water and wastewaters. This article expresses the degradation of methylene blue (MB), Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) as gram negative and positive bacteria via a chitosan/AgCl/ZnO (CS/AgCl/ZnO) nanocomposite hydrogel beads system as a photocatalyst under visible light irradiation. The techniques such as FT-IR, SEM, EDAX, TGA, and XRD were applied to recognize the synthesized beads.

Construction of a stable manganese/copper core-shell laccase-like enzyme for recyclable dye decolorization and phenolic pollutant detection.

Laccase shows significant potential for environmental remediation, yet its practical implementation is limited by inherent instability and restricted reusability. To address these limitations, we successfully synthesized a Mn/Cu-based core-shell structured laccase-like enzyme (SiO2@APTCu-MnO2) using a sol-gel method coupled with an in situ sacrificial strategy. Compared to natural laccase, SiO2@APTCu-MnO2 exhibited enhanced substrate affinity (Michaelis constant, Km = 0.29 mM) and a higher catalytic rate (Vmax = 1.05 ×10⁻³ mM/min). It maintained exceptional stability across wide pH and tempera

Synthesis, magnetic properties, biotoxicity and potential mechanism of modified nano zero-valent iron for decolorization of dye wastewater.

SiO2-coated nano zero-valent iron (nZVI) has emerged as a fine material for the treatment of dye wastewater due to its large specific surface area, high surface activity, and strong reducibility. However, the magnetic properties based on which SiO2-coated nZVI (SiO2-nZVI) could effectively separate and recover from treated wastewater, and the biotoxicity analysis of degradation products of the dye wastewater treated by SiO2-nZVI remain unclear. In this study, SiO2-nZVI was synthesized using a modified one-step synthesis method. The SiO2-nZVI nanoparticles were characterized using Transmission
