Increasing Referral Acceptance for Women's Health Services Among Hispanic Women.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of an individualized educational intervention on women's health referral acceptance rates among Hispanic women. DESIGN: Quality improvement (QI) project. SETTING/LOCAL PROBLEM: Barriers to cervical cancer screening among Hispanic women include a lack of access to women's health services and a lack of knowledge related to cervical cancer risk factors. Primary care providers at two medical clinics in eastern Pennsylvania did not routinely discuss cervical cancer risk factors, provide well-woman care, or perform cervical cancer screening during office visits. Older women's pregnancy related symptoms, health and use of antenatal services.

OBJECTIVE: The study aims to describe older women's self-reported pregnancy-related symptoms, health and use of antenatal services by parity. STUDY DESIGN: The data were collected in a national survey of women who gave birth in one week in England in 2006. A random sample of 4800 participants was drawn via birth registration by the Office for National Statistics. Women were contacted at three months postpartum and a 63% response rate was achieved. Older women's (35 years or more, n = 692) experience of pregnancy-related symptoms and use of antenatal services were compared with those of younge

Public or private providers? U.S. women's use of reproductive health services.

CONTEXT: U.S. women receive contraceptive and reproductive health services from a wide range of publicly funded and private providers. Information on trends in and on patterns of service use can help policymakers and program planners assess the adequacy of current services and plan for future improvements. METHODS: Women who reported in the 1995 National Survey of Family Growth that they had obtained any contraceptive or other reproductive health service in the past year were classified by their primary source of care, and the services they received, their characteristics and their primary so

Women's Health Care in the Deployed Setting 2013-2020: A Health Services Research Approach.

INTRODUCTION: With the management and oversight of MTFs moving under the authority of the Defense Health Agency, coupled with a careful examination of the composition of uniformed medical personnel, it is imperative to ensure that active duty servicewomen who are in deployed settings receive timely, appropriate, and quality health care. This study sought to examine the amount and types of gynecological and obstetric care provided in the deployed setting and to examine that data by the socioeconomic and demographic characteristics of the women receiving that care. Identifying and Assisting Sexually Exploited and Trafficked Patients Seeking Women's Health Care Services.

It is estimated that 21 million people are trafficked worldwide, including 11.4 million women and girls. Approximately 4.5 million are forced to do sexual labor. The exact prevalence of human trafficking is difficult to ascertain, however, given the limitations of data collection in an illegal industry. Obstetrician-gynecologists should not only be aware of the widespread nature of human trafficking, but also have the tools to assess patients for trafficking and respond to victim identifications. Patients may present with signs of physical abuse, depression, anxiety, posttraumatic stress disor

Cisgender Sexual Minority Women's Interest in Telemental Health Services: A Latent Class Analysis.

Introduction: Telemental health is increasingly recognized for its potential to overcome barriers like cost and stigma, particularly for marginalized groups. Sexual minority women in particular may benefit from increased access to telemental health services, due to the unique health disparities faced by this population. However, very little research thus far has assessed the telemental health preferences of this group. Methods: The present study surveyed 1,092 cisgender sexual minority women regarding their demographic information, mental health, and telemental health preferences, using the Pr

Our objective was to examine associations between self-reported sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and sociodemographic, lifestyle, health status, health service use and quality of life factors among young Australian women; and their use of family planning and sexual health clinics and associations with health, demographic and psychosocial factors. The study sample comprised 14,762 women aged 18-23 years who participated in the mailed baseline survey for the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health, conducted in 1996. The main outcome measures are self report of ever being diagnosed

Women's and health-care providers' views of maternal practices and services in rural Nigeria.

Maternal mortality and morbidity estimates in Nigeria continue to be dramatically high largely because maternal services, especially in rural areas, are often deficient and inappropriate to women's situations. The Safe Motherhood Project in Zone A examined the pregnancy-related knowledge, attitudes, and practices of community members, and women's use of community maternal health services. Focus-group discussions and interviews confirmed a number of recent findings by other studies; they also documented extensive hostility between the two most commonly used health-care providers: traditional bi

Identifying gaps in women's preventive health services for women living with HIV in Vermont.

BACKGROUND: Women living with HIV (WLHIV) in the United States experience higher rates of death from cervical and breast cancer and lower screening rates for both compared to women without HIV. These disparities highlight the need to better understand access to and uptake of women's preventive health services-particularly cervical cancer screening, breast cancer screening, and HPV vaccination. Most existing data on these services among WLHIV come from urban settings; therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate factors affecting adherence to these preventive health measures among WL

Women's contraceptive profiles in Burundi: Knowledge, attitudes, and interactions with media and health services.

Reproductive health program managers seek information about existing and potential clients' motivations, behaviors, and barriers to services. Using sequence and cluster analysis of contraceptive calendar data from the 2016-17 Burundi Demographic and Health Survey, we identified discrete clusters characterizing patterns in women's contraceptive and pregnancy behaviors over the previous 5 years. This study pairs these clusters with data on factors typically targeted in social behavior change interventions: knowledge, attitudes, and women's interactions with media and health services, to create c

Asian women's use of specialist Contraception, Sexual and Reproductive Health Services in Leicester, UK.

BACKGROUND: There is evidence to suggest that Asian women in the UK have specific contraceptive and sexual health needs. It has been reported that Asian women may use less reliable contraceptive methods and that cultural influences can affect access to sexual health services. As part of a wider needs assessment project we compared Asian women's usage of our specialist Contraception, Sexual and Reproductive Health Services to that of non-Asian women. METHODS: An anonymous questionnaire was offered to all service users between October and December 2007. Data were analysed separately for Asian a

Women's health and maternal care services: seizing missed opportunities to prevent and manage preterm birth.

PROGRESS: The past ten years have seen uneven developments in women's and adolescents' health and reproductive rights. Globally, reductions of maternal and neonatal mortality rates and adolescent birth rates have been achieved along with improvements in coverage of key reproductive and maternal health services. However, preterm birth rates have not changed significantly. There is still large variation in these rates across the world, with the highest rates occurring in South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. PROGRAMMATIC PRIORITIES: Effective interventions based on current clinical guidelines are

Privatisation of health services and the reproductive health of rural Chinese women.

China's rural health care system has undergone major changes since the early 1980s, when the country began privatising rural health services. Following fiscal devolution, the rural primary health service was transformed into a fee-for-service system, dependent on the availability of local resources. This article reports some of the results of a study undertaken in 1994-96 to examine the impact of privatization on financing, provision and use of reproductive health services by women in two rural counties in Yunnan Province, China. The most common self-reported symptoms of reproductive morbidity

The use of health services by women with HIV infection.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to determine whether women who have been diagnosed with HIV utilize the same volume of medical care services as men who have been diagnosed with HIV. DATA SOURCES: This study uses data from the first wave of interviews of the AIDS Cost and Service Utilization Survey (ACSUS) conducted between May and July of 1991. The first wave of interviews involved 1,949 adults and adolescents, of whom 359 were women. STUDY DESIGN: The ACSUS sample was selected from 26 sites (hospitals, clinics, and physician offices) in ten cities chosen from the 25 cities with the
