Moral Distress, Work Engagement, and Meaningful Work in Healthcare: A Narrative Review.

The psychological well-being of healthcare professionals is increasingly recognized as a critical determinant of patient safety, quality of care, and healthcare system sustainability. Among the constructs most relevant to this domain are moral distress, work engagement, and meaningful work. This narrative review aimed to synthesize conceptual and empirical evidence on these three constructs and to examine their interrelations and implications for healthcare practice. A selective narrative review of the literature was conducted, integrating theoretical frameworks, systematic and integrative rev

Angry and "productive": engagement in gamified precarious work.

We examine the affective engagement of workers in app-mediated food delivery who continue working while explicitly describing the work as harming them financially, emotionally, and bodily, while using the language of betrayed intimacy. Using a mixed-methods design that combines manual coding with eight validated computational instruments and a study-specific linguistic analysis across two corpora-1,385 Glassdoor employer reviews and 1,075 Reddit posts-we identify a sizable minority (n = 338, 34.4% of current-employee reviews) of conflicted but persisting workers. Working conditions, job strain and work engagement among Belgian radiation oncologists.

PURPOSE: This national survey has measured the working conditions, work engagement, job strain, burn out, and the negative work-home interaction among Belgian radiation oncologists with validated questionnaires. In fact, previous studies had in general shown an interest to burn out and its association with working conditions among oncology workers, but not focused on radiation oncologists in particular. Moreover, few studies concerned work engagement and its association with working conditions although this could be important in preventing burn out. METHODS: We used the WOrking Conditions and

Psychological resilience as a bridge between academic work stress and work engagement: evidence from Arab university faculty.

Academic work in Arab higher education institutions is characterized by a compounding mix of teaching burdens, research expectations, and rigorous quality assurance demands. This study examines how these institutional pressures directly diminish work engagement and evaluate psychological resilience as a protective personal resource. Utilising a sample of 266 faculty members across Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Egypt, data were analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLSA-SEM). The results showed that psychological resilience partially mediated the relationship bet

Job demands-resources, job crafting and work engagement of tobacco retailers.

In recent years, the development of tobacco control actions in China and the changes in people's health concepts have slowed the development of the tobacco industry. As an important strategic partner of tobacco sales companies, tobacco retailers are the key link between tobacco commercial enterprises and consumers. How to improve the work engagement level of tobacco retailers is an urgent issue for tobacco business enterprises. On the basis of job demands-resources (JD-R) theory, the mechanisms of the effects of job resources and demands on tobacco retailers' work engagement were explored. Res

Perceived decent work and work engagement among nurses: a multicenter cross-sectional mediation analysis of self-esteem.

BACKGROUND: A stable and engaged nursing workforce is important for continuity of care and health-system preparedness. Perceived decent work may be associated with nurses' work engagement, and self-esteem may account statistically for part of this association; however, cross-sectional data cannot establish temporal or causal pathways. OBJECTIVE: To assess perceived decent work among nurses in tertiary Grade-A hospitals in Sichuan Province, examine its association with work engagement, and estimate the statistical indirect association through self-esteem. METHODS: We conducted a multicenter c

Engaging social work practitioners in research: challenges and opportunities.

Contemporary emphasis on measuring and evaluating observable, behavioral outcomes reflects a major change in the profession toward greater empirical basis for social work practice. This intellectual and methodological shift has created a gap between practitioners and researchers. While social work practitioners definitely should be more knowledgeable and receptive to interventions that have proven to be effective in helping people, social work academics must pay more attention to the realities of social work practitioners who struggle daily with expanding caseloads, ever-increasing time pressu

Perceived Algorithmic Control and Work Engagement in Platform Gig Work: Asymmetric Pathways via Role Stress and Emotional Exhaustion.

Algorithmic management is central to platform gig work, but its distinct forms of control may relate differently to worker strain. We examine these relationships in food delivery, a typical form of platform gig work. In this setting, algorithms continuously allocate tasks, track performance, evaluate workers, and shape behavior. The Stressor-Strain-Outcome (S-S-O) model provides the overarching framework. The Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) perspective explains why the three control dimensions may show different associations, while cognitive appraisal theory provides a supplementary lens. Specifi

The mediating role of work engagement between perceived organizational support and work competency among Chinese infection control practitioners.

BACKGROUND: Infection control practitioners (ICPs) play a fundamental role in preventing and controlling healthcare-associated infections. ICPs' work competency is associated with work engagement and perceived organizational support (POS); however, the intercorrelations and mechanisms among Chinese ICPs remain unknown. Based on the job demands-resources (JD-R) model and conservation of resources (COR) theory, this study aimed to test the mediating effect of work engagement on the relationship between POS and work competency. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 340 ICPs from 8

Technology overload, job crafting, and work engagement: the moderating role of mindfulness.

INTRODUCTION: Employees in digitally mediated workplaces may experience technology overload (TO) when digital information, communication demands, and system features exceed their capacity to respond. Although TO is generally associated with strain, prior findings are mixed, suggesting that employees' appraisals of digital demands and their subsequent work adjustments may shape its consequences. Guided by the Challenge-Hindrance Demands Framework and Conservation of Resources theory, with stress appraisal treated as the linking process, this study examined the indirect association between TO an
