ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Xylopia staudtii is a medicinal plant which fruits are traditionally used in western Cameroon as a spice in the preparation of soups known for their abdominal cramp relieving properties. Often identified as Xylopia africana, its bark is used in the treatment of dysentery in Mont Cameroun localities. This plant could therefore contain active ingredients against intestinal pathogens, including Shigella spp, which are responsible of the deathly dysenteric diarrhoea.
AIM OF THE STUDY: This study aims to assess the efficacy of the hydroethanolic extract from Xylopia

A new cauliflorous species of the pantropical genus Xylopia (Annonaceae) is described from the Amazon Basin. Xylopia rubrolineata sp. nov., is shown to be distinct from X. ochrantha, with which it had previously been confused. On the basis of its morphology, Xylopia rubrolineata is inferred to belong to a small subclade of X. sect. Xylopia. A review of cauliflory in the genus indicated that the evolution of trunciflorous cauliflory was limited in time and place, occurring in only nine of ca. 220 species, all in two subclades of X. sect. Xylopia and confined to the Amazon Basin and Brazilian At

Four new guaiane dimers, elliptisides A-D, were isolated and characterized from the twigs of Xylopia elliptica Maingay ex Hook.f. & Thomson. Their structures were elucidated through comprehensive spectroscopic analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Elliptiside C possesses a novel connectivity pattern through two direct CC bonds (C-2 to C-3', C-3 to C-1', forming a previously unreported carbon skeleton. Biological evaluation demonstrated that elliptiside C moderately inhibits nitric oxide (NO) production in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophages, with an IC50 value of 19.8 μM.

Background/Objectives: Taeniasis, a zoonotic infection, is a common foodborne disease. Niclosamide and praziquantel have proven to be effective in treating it, but the use of the same drugs can lead to resistance, so alternative drugs need to be explored. This study investigated the anthelmintic potential of derived fractions from hydroethanolic extracts (HEs) of Aframomum melegueta (AM) and Xylopia aethiopica (XA), two medicinal plants known for their diverse bioactive properties. Methods: AM-HE fractions (dichloromethane fraction (DCMF), ether fraction (EF), aqueous fraction (AF)) and XA-HE

Mosquitoes of the Aedes genus are responsible for transmitting many vector-borne viral diseases worldwide. Hundreds of thousands of people die annually from vector-borne diseases, including West Nile fever, dengue, tick-borne diseases, yellow fever, chikungunya, Rift Valley fever, and Zika. Billions of people are at the risk of infection on all continents, which is a cause of international concern. Therefore, new vector-control methods are essential for mitigating these illnesses. The bioactive hydrocarbons isolated from Xylopia langsdorfiana St. Hilaire & Tulasne are trachylobanes, a rare cla
