Larvicidal constituents of Zingiber officinale (ginger) against Anisakis simplex.

In this study, we investigated the anthelmintic activity of [10]-shogaol, [6]-shogaol, [10]-gingerol and [6]-gingerol, compounds isolated from the roots of Zingiber officinale L., Zingiberaceae (ginger), against Anisakis simplex. The above compounds kill or reduce spontaneous movement in A. simplex larvae. The maximum lethal efficacy of [10]-shogaol and [10]-gingerol was approximately 80% and 100%, respectively. We further examined the time course of compound-induced loss of mobility in A. simplex. The results showed that various concentrations of [10]-shogaol, [6]-shogaol, [10]-gingerol and [

Therapeutic Potential of Ginger Rhizomes (Zingiber officinale) on Leukemia.

Leukemia continues to provide a significant therapeutic challenge due to relapse, medication resistance, and treatment-associated toxicity, which frequently hinder sustained disease management. Rhizomes of ginger (Zingiber officinale) possess bioactive phenolics, notably 6-gingerol and 6-shogaol derivatives, which have demonstrated antileukemia efficacy in preclinical models. This study rigorously assesses the evidence regarding ginger-derived preparations and isolated compounds in both acute and chronic leukemia models, focusing on recurring mechanisms and translational viability. Zingiber officinale supplementation suppresses eimeriosis and regulates goblet cell response.

Coccidiosis affects both domestic and wild animals and negatively impacting industries worldwide. Medicinal plants are widely used against parasites. Using infected mice with Eimeria papillata, we assessed the anticoccidial impact of Zingiber officinale extract (ZE). The animals in the first group were just given distilled water, while the animals in the second group were given ZE. The parasite's oocysts were infected into the third and fourth groups. The fourth group was given ZE for five days. The oocysts in mice faeces were reduced after treatment with ZE. The total parasitic stages were re

The effect of ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) in patients with advanced cancer.

BACKGROUND: Anorexia-cachexia syndrome (ACS) is a complex condition in advanced cancer patients, defined by disproportionate loss of skeletal muscle mass, and a lack or loss of appetite. This condition greatly lowers the quality of life and limits the treatment options. ACS is commonly associated with gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. Ginger has been successful in treating these symptoms but has not yet been tested on patients with advanced cancer. Electrogastrography is a technology that allows the direct recording of the gastric myoelectrical activity (GMA). PURPOSE: Th

Zingiber officinale (ginger) as an anti-emetic in cancer chemotherapy: a review.

Despite significant advances and development of novel anti-emetics, nausea and vomiting (emesis) is a major side-effect of cancer chemotherapy. At times, severe nausea and vomiting may also lead to reduction in adherence to the treatment regimen, and this will concomitantly affect the patient's survival. The rhizome of Zingiber officinale, commonly known as ginger, is globally an important spice. It has been used for centuries in the Indian, Chinese, Arabic, Tibetan, Unani, and Siddha systems of traditional medicine to treat nausea and vomiting induced by different stimuli. Preclinical studies
