Gelsemium elegans poisoning-induced acute respiratory failure treated with respiratory support and hemoperfusion: A case report.

We report a case of severe Gelsemium elegans poisoning in a 64-year-old male following ingestion of approximately 40 mL of a Gelsemium decoction. Shortly after presentation with blurred vision, the patient developed sudden respiratory arrest during gastric lavage. Immediate endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation were performed, followed by hemoperfusion and supportive care in the intensive care unit. The patient regained spontaneous respiration, was weaned off ventilation, and achieved full recovery without residual complications. This case highlights the critical role of prompt respiratory support and hemoperfusion in successful management of Gelsemium elegans poisoning.
