Incident cardiovascular diseases and changes in the ratio of serum creatinine to cystatin C: the sarcopenia index.
Аннотация
BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Previous study found that the sarcopenia index (SI) was significantly associated with cardiovascular diseases (CVD). However, little is known about the change in SI over time and its association with the development of CVD.
METHODS AND
RESULTS
A total of 4133 participants (1985 men and 2148 women) from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (from Wave 1 to Wave 5) were included in the analysis. SI change over 4 years was divided into four subgroups according to quartiles. Cox proportional hazard models were used to calculate the hazard ratio (HR) and 95 % confidence interval (95 % CI). From 2015 to 2020 (Wave 3 to Wave 5), a total of 707 respondents experienced CVD (including 296 stroke and 474 cardiac events). After adjusting for age, sex and other covariates, subjects with Q 4 (≥25.55) quartile of SI changes were significantly associated with lower risk of CVD (Hazard ratios = 0.75: 95 % CI 0.59-0.95), as well as with lower risk of stroke and cardiac events. Multivariable-adjusted spline regression models showed linear association of SI change with the risk of CVD, stroke, and cardiac events (all the likelihood ratio test reveals P for linearity<0.05). When participants were divided into two subgroups (SI change<0; SI change ≥0), those with SI change ≥0 were significantly associated with decreased risk of CVD, stroke, and cardiac events, compared to those with SI change<0.
CONCLUSION
A high change in SI level is associated with decreased risks of incident CVD.
