Аннотация

OBJECTIVES: White spot lesions (WSLs) are early manifestations of dental caries resulting from an imbalance between enamel demineralization and remineralization. While remineralization therapy is crucial for managing WSLs, conventional strategies often fail to mimic natural enamel formation or effectively remineralize deep lesions. This study aimed to develop a novel biomimetic remineralization system by synergistically combining a PTL-PEG coating with CMC/ACP (PTL-PEG&CMC/ACP) to enhance enamel remineralization while providing antibacterial benefits for improved WSLs management.

METHODS: A PTL-PEG coating was constructed on an enamel surface to modify its interfacial properties. This coating synergized with CMC/ACP to establish a biomimetic remineralization system. The efficacy of the PTL-PEG&CMC/ACP system was compared with that of fluoride treatment, with a focus on the remineralization of both surface and subsurface enamel lesions. The anti-adhesive properties against cariogenic bacteria were also assessed.

RESULTS: Compared with fluoride, the PTL-PEG&CMC/ACP system demonstrated superior remineralization performance, effectively promoting the repair of surface and subsurface demineralized areas. Additionally, the system exhibited significant anti-adhesive properties against cariogenic bacteria, reducing bacterial adhesion and potentially inhibiting caries progression.

CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: This study presents a dual-action strategy that synergistically combines biomimetic remineralization with antibacterial functionality for WSLs management. The PTL-PEG&CMC/ACP system not only enhances enamel remineralization but also prevents bacterial adhesion. This approach provides a promising new direction for noninvasive dental caries management and enamel repair.
