Аннотация

Two bacterial strains, PWIR1ᵀ and PWIIR3ᵀ, were isolated from freshwater collected from a wetland and characterized using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences and whole-genome comparisons showed that strain PWIR1ᵀ is affiliated with the genus Duganella, whereas strain PWIIR3ᵀ belongs to the genus Pedobacter. The genome sizes were 6.79 Mb with a G + C content of 63.5% for PWIR1ᵀ and 4.41 Mb with a G + C content of 40.5% for PWIIR3ᵀ. Genome analyses revealed genes potentially involved in diverse metabolic functions in wetland environments, including polysaccharide degradation, nitrogen fixation, cyanate detoxification, and vitamin biosynthesis. Cells of both strains were Gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic and rod-shaped. Chemotaxonomic analyses revealed that ubiquinone-8 was the predominant respiratory quinone in strain PWIR1ᵀ, while strain PWIIR3ᵀ contained menaquinone-7. The major fatty acid and polar lipid compositions were consistent with those reported for the respective genera. Phylogenomic analyses clearly indicated that strains PWIR1T and PWIIR3T represent two novel species. This conclusion is supported by phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characteristics. Therefore, the names Duganella paludis sp. nov. and Pedobacter jaeyakensis sp. nov. are proposed.
