[The role of indole-3-carbinol and epigallocatechin-3-gallate in maintaining men's health (a systematic literature review)].

UNLABELLED: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a condition that impairs the quality of life and occurs with high frequency in older men. Prostate cancer is one of the most common malignancies in men, characterized by high mortality rates. The aim of the study was to systematize data on the physiological effects and safety profile of the supplement Indigal® containing indole-3-carbinol (I3C) and epigallocatechin-3- gallate (EGCG) to confirm their positive impact on men's health and safety.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A search for studies on the clinical effect of I3C, its metabolite diindolylmethane (DIM), green tea catechins (GTC), including EGCG, and their combinations was conducted in the database PubMed, Cochrane Library, ClinicalTrials. gov, WHO ICTRP and eLibrary. The final analysis included 31 publications.
RESULTS: The review presents current data on the role of I3C and GTC in maintaining men's health. I3C promotes normal hormonal balance, exhibits antiproliferative and antiandrogenic activity, and improves urodynamics and microcirculation in the prostate gland. GTC have demonstrated a chemopreventive effect regarding the risk of prostate cancer, improved regulation of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, enhanced energy metabolism, and a beneficial impact on vascular health and cellular vital processes. The supplement Indigal® helps reduce the severity of BPH symptoms, improves urodynamic parameters, normalizes the hormonal profile, and exhibits antiproliferative activity along with beneficial effects on microcirculation. Thus, the supplement can reduce the severity of prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN) and BPH, improves metabolic processes, increases the body's adaptive capacity, and provides protection at the cellular level.
CONCLUSION: The administration of the complex can be recommended as a dietary supplement, a source of I3C and EGCG, for the support of men's health.
