Аннотация

BACKGROUND: A hospital-community-family network for peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) management allows the families of children with pediatric cancer to select a PICC nursing institution based on their place of residence and healthcare coverage. PICC family caregiving support across a chemotherapy regimen helps to mitigate discomfort.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to implement a medical alliance consortium (MAC) model PICC care network and to evaluate its effectiveness in outpatients with pediatric cancer in China.

METHODS: A MAC network was established among medical staff from a tertiary hospital and 26 regional community hospitals. In total, 180 children with leukemia undergoing PICC placement were randomized to groups receiving routine continous care or care through the network. Nurse satisfaction, patient satisfaction, and patient outcomes were evaluated.

FINDINGS: The MAC group showed fewer complications than the control group (p < 0.05). Children in the MAC group showed superior self-management capabilities. Patients' families and nurses reported higher satisfaction with the MAC model.
