In this issue, Losa et al.1 identify agglomerates composed of enzymes involved in amino acid metabolism as important factors controlling cytoplasmic fluidity in bacteria that are dependent on growth conditions. The obstacles hinder the diffusion of large, ribosome-sized objects, while freeing space for faster diffusion of smaller proteins.
