Аннотация
This study aims to examine the relationship between fear of missing out (FoMO) in social settings, loneliness, and social anxiety among adolescents in Turkey. The sample consisted of 456 high school students. Data were collected using an "information form," the "fear of missing out on developments in social environments scale," the "UCLA loneliness scale-short form (UCLA-SF)," and the "social anxiety for adolescents (SAS-A) scale." Data analysis involved the use of frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, One-Way ANOVA, correlation, and simple linear regression analysis. The findings revealed that adolescents experience moderate levels of FoMO, loneliness, and social anxiety. Significant positive correlations were found between FoMO and loneliness, FoMO and social anxiety, and loneliness and social anxiety. According to the regression analysis, FoMO was found to significantly predict loneliness by 7.6 % and social anxiety by 23.1 % variance. Additionally, it was found that female students had significantly higher FoMO levels than male students, and individuals with low parental education levels and few close friends had higher loneliness and social anxiety scores. Based on these findings, it is evident that FoMO increases loneliness and social anxiety in adolescents, emphasizing the importance of interventions that support psychological well-being in this age group.
