Global genome mining in fungi using FunBGCeX.

Genome mining-driven approaches, in addition to the accumulation of big genome sequencing data, have become mainstream in natural product discovery. A key challenge of genome mining is prioritizing a large number of biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) for further experimental characterization. To address this challenge, we have developed a genome mining tool, Fungal Biosynthetic Gene Cluster eXtractor (FunBGCeX). Crucially, FunBGCeX detects BGCs overlooked by other tools and enables selective extraction of BGCs of interest. This chapter describes detailed methods for running FunBGCeX and a model case of global genome mining of fungi with FunBGCeX.
