Аннотация

BACKGROUND: Childhood trauma and alexithymia are global public health issues with profound impacts on children's emotional regulation, social cognition, and mental health.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to explore the relationships between childhood trauma, perceived social support, and alexithymia among Chinese adolescents using network analysis.

PARTICIPANTS AND SETTING: From February to April 2024, a cross-sectional survey was conducted with adolescents aged 10-19 from 13 secondary schools in five provinces of China.

METHODS: Childhood trauma, perceived social support, and alexithymia were assessed using the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-Short Form (CTQ-SF), the Short Version of the Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS), and the Perth Alexithymia Questionnaire (PAQ), respectively. Descriptive and correlation analyses were conducted using SPSS 26.0. Subsequently, network analysis was performed with R 4.4.2 to estimate the network structure, centrality, bridge centrality, and to test its accuracy and stability. Network comparison was also applied.

RESULTS: A total of 7824 participants were included with a mean age of 15.63 ± 1.81 years and 4057 (51.85%) males. The network revealed strong connections among childhood trauma and both perceived social support and alexithymia, while the direct relationship between perceived social support and alexithymia was relatively weak. Positive-Difficulty Identifying Feelings emerged as a central node in the network. Bridge network analysis identified "family support" "physical neglect" and "emotional neglect" as key bridge symptoms playing pivotal roles in the network structure. Additionally, network comparison tests indicated statistically significant differences in the network structure between male and female adolescents.

CONCLUSIONS: Our study reveals complex interconnections among childhood trauma, perceived social support, and alexithymia among the Chinese adolescents. Enhancing family support and social support can be an effective intervention target for adolescents with neglect experiences.
