AIM: An analysis of suicidal risk in people under conditions of penitentiary stress taking into account sociodemographic, criminological and other characteristics and autoaggressive behavior.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Two hundred and thirty-five cases of suicidal behavior in offenders, including 123 (52.3%) completed suicides and 112 (47.7%) suicide attempts, recorded in the period 2011-2018 were analyzed. Special attention was paid to factors influencing autoaggression.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Suicide attempts were committed in 47.6% of cases during the first months after being in custody. The low educational level, work maladaptation, mental disorder, including substance use disorder and a history of analogous behavior predisposed to autoaggressive behavior, which was preceded by expressed changes in emotional state. The authors suggest methods for assessment of suicidal behavior risk and an algorithm of action that will improve the effectiveness of suicide prevention.
