Live Thelazia callipaeda in the vitrectomized eye after intraocular surgery: A case report.
Аннотация
OBJECTIVES
To report a rare case of live Thelazia callipaeda detected in the vitreous cavity following combined vitrectomy and cataract surgery and to highlight its clinical implications.
METHODS
This is a single case report describing intraoperative findings, postoperative course, and subsequent management in a patient undergoing combined vitrectomy and cataract surgery.
RESULTS
A live Thelazia callipaeda was identified in the vitreous cavity after surgery. The parasite survived continuously within the vitreous cavity, necessitating a second, specialized surgical procedure for complete removal.
CONCLUSION
This case underscores the importance of thorough preoperative evaluation and raises awareness of the potential for unusual and previously unrecognized intraocular sites of infection.
