Lysobacter halodurans sp. nov., a Bacterium Isolated from the Sludge of a Bioreactor Treating Aromatic Compounds.

A novel bacterium, strain e5T, was isolated from the sludge of a bioreactor treating aromatic compounds. Cells of strain e5T were Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped, forming yellow and viscous colonies on Reasoner's 2 A agar plates. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16 S rRNA gene showed that strain e5T shared 97.3% sequence similarity with Luteimonas arsenica 26-35T and formed a distinct lineage in the genus Luteimonas with low bootstrap values. However, phylogenomic analyses indicated that strain e5ᵀ formed a distinct lineage in the genus Lysobacter with high bootstrap values, indicating that strain e5ᵀ is a novel species in this genus. In agreement with the phylogenomic results, the enzyme activities and fatty acid profiles of strain e5ᵀ were consistent with its placement in the genus Lysobacter. Nevertheless, strain e5ᵀ can be distinguished from closely related species by its salt tolerance, phenylacetate assimilation, urease activity, gelatin hydrolysis, and the relative proportions of fatty acids such as iso-C15:0, iso-C16:0, and iso-C11:0 3-OH. These phenotypic and chemotaxonomic data thus provide additional support for the recognition of strain e5ᵀ as a novel species within the genus Lysobacter. Therefore, the name Lysobacter halodurans sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is e5T (= KCTC 92385T =GDMCC 1.3249T).
