Fanleaf degeneration disease is referred to as "ortiage" in the French literature in 1723. Nowadays it occurs in most vineyards worldwide. Grapevine fanleaf virus (GFLV) is the main causal agent of the disease. Two Xiphinema species, one new and one known, were found from Bushehr province, southern Iran, and are herein described based on morphological and molecular data. These include Xiphinema pedrami sp. nov. and X. basiri, both belonging to the 'Xiphinema non-americanum group'. The new dagger nematode is characterised by a body length of 3.54-5.00 mm, a lip region separated from the rest of body by a depression, odontostyle 128-148 μm long, 60-89 μm long odontophore, guiding ring at 107-138 μm from anterior end, female tail rounded to dorsally more convex with small bulge and four juvenile stages.

Grapevine viruses reduce harvests and degrade fruit quality, but their genetic diversity in Kazakhstan has remained unexplored. We collected symptomatic leaves from local vineyards and recovered eleven fragments of the coat-protein gene: one from grapevine fanleaf virus, five from grapevine virus A, and five from grapevine leafroll-associated virus 3. Grapevine fanleaf virus (GFLV) is one of the most severe virus diseases of grapevines, causing fanleaf degeneration that is transmitted by Xiphinema index. This paper aims to isolate Xiphinema species from Tunisian vineyard soil samples and assess their ability to acquire and transmit GFLV under natural and controlled conditions. The study reports the detection of Xiphinema diversicaudatum in a peach field in Ontario, Canada. Comprehensive population characterization involved morphological and molecular analyses using 18S and 28S rDNA sequences. Morphological and molecular analysis demonstrated a close relationship between the Ontario population and those from Central Europe. This is the first report of X. diversicaudatum from peaches (Prunus persica) in Canada and in North America.
