Case Report: Bladder perforation in an extremely preterm neonate secondary to multifactorial etiology.

BACKGROUND: Neonatal bladder perforation is a rare but life-threatening condition associated with significant morbidity if not promptly recognized. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of an extremely preterm male infant born at 26 weeks of gestation who developed bladder perforation on day 15 of life, presenting with abdominal distension, decreased urine output, and respiratory distress. The diagnosis was confirmed by fluoroscopic voiding cystourethrogram demonstrating contrast extravasation into the peritoneal cavity. The etiology was multifactorial, involving extreme prematurity, umbilica

[Intrauretheral devices and infection : common beliefs and scientific evidence].

Intrauretheral catheters, used for drainage of the upper urinary tract, are associated with mechanical and infectious complications. The risk of infection is associated with the duration of catheterization, the presence of comorbidities, and the clinical context. Microbial colonization of synthetic material, via the formation of a biofilm, is a known and expected phenomenon that is most often clinically insignificant but may be associated with an increased risk of infection, even though a direct causal link between colonization and symptomatic infection has not been established. The management

Safety and Short-Term Clinical Outcomes of Robot-Assisted Lobectomy Based on the Tubeless Concept for Early-Stage Lung Cancer: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

AIM: The Tubeless comprehensive management model minimizes iatrogenic trauma by avoiding endotracheal intubation, chest tube placement, and urinary catheterization, while the robot-assisted thoracoscopic surgery system offers precise surgical manipulation and high-definition visualization. However, clinical evidence supporting the combination of these two approaches in early-stage lung cancer surgery remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the short-term safety and clinical benefits of robot-assisted lobectomy based on the Tubeless concept in patients with early-stage lung cancer. METHO

Rater Dependence in Emergency Department Catheter-Appropriateness Audits: A Prospective Three-Rater Study of Item-Level Reliability.

Background/Objectives: Catheter-appropriateness audits report a single rate without a measure of its reliability. We measured how far an emergency department (ED) estimate depends on the clinician applying the checklist, and which items carry that dependence. Methods: We enrolled 117 consecutive adults catheterized in a tertiary ED between 21 January and 21 May 2026. Three emergency physicians independently classified every patient against a ten-item checklist drawn from the 2009 CDC/HICPAC guideline and the Ann Arbor criteria. A designated senior rater served as comparator, a clinical judgmen

Multidrug resistance in bacteria causing community-acquired urinary tract infections among adult outpatients attending primary healthcare facilities in Mwanza, Tanzania.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a common indication for antibiotic use among adult outpatients in low- and middle-income countries, yet data on community-acquired UTIs (CA-UTIs) and antimicrobial resistance at primary healthcare facilities remain limited. A facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted from May to August 2024 at Igoma and Buzuruga Health Centres in Mwanza, Tanzania. Symptomatic adults without hospitalization within the preceding 30 days or urinary catheterization were enrolled. Clinical and demographic data were collected, and midstream urine specimens were cultured,

IMPORTANCE: Catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) remains a common and morbid health care-associated infection. Although evidence-based prevention strategies are well established, the degree to which hospitals adopt and sustain these practices over time and whether trajectories differ between Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and nonfederal systems are not well described. OBJECTIVE: To examine 20-year trends in reported CAUTI prevention practices in US hospitals and compare practice use between VA and nonfederal hospitals. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This survey study
