Laparoscopic right caudate lobectomy combined with right posterior lobectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma after neoadjuvant therapy (with video).

BACKGROUND: Tumors located at the Caudate lobe are challenging due to proximity to major vessels, increasing recurrence risk and surgical difficulty. Neoadjuvant therapy has been explored for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with higher risk of recurrence. METHODS: A 53-year-old female patient was admitted with hepatic mass detected during routine physical examination. PIVKA-II was 2143 mAU/ml and alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) was 8553 ng/ml. Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated two discrete lesions, with tumor-related compression of the right hepatic vein and close anat

Uterine Smooth Muscle Tumor of Uncertain Malignant Potential (STUMP): A Case Report.

Uterine smooth muscle tumors of uncertain malignant potential (STUMP) are rare mesenchymal neoplasms that occupy a diagnostic gray zone between benign leiomyomas and malignant leiomyosarcomas. Owing to their low incidence and overlapping clinical, radiological, and histopathological features, STUMPs pose significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges and are frequently identified only after surgical intervention for presumed benign disease. We report the case of a 39-year-old Mexican woman with a two-year history of abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) and severe dysmenorrhea. Preoperative imagi

Reassessing the Role of Regular Physical Examination in Post-treatment Breast Cancer Surveillance.

BACKGROUND: Routine provider-performed physical examinations remain a standard element of breast cancer survivorship despite increasing evidence that diagnostic yield is limited. With growing survivorship populations and mounting demands on oncology services, reassessment of the value of this practice is warranted. This study sought to evaluate the diagnostic yield and prognostic relevance of surveillance physical exams. METHODS: A retrospective review was conducted of women with breast cancer treated between January 2019 and December 2023 at a single tertiary center. Surgical oncology surviv

Risk Stratified Breast Cancer Screening: Early Outcomes and Psychological Impact from PRSONAL - a Randomized Clinical Trial.

PURPOSE: Risk-stratified screening for breast cancer might improve benefit-to-harm ratio, however, psychological consequences of risk communication and low-risk women's acceptance of de-escalated screening are unclear. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We carried out a randomized clinical trial allocating women aged 50-67 years attending their routine biennial screening mammography 1:1 to a control and intervention group. Women in the control group continued the standard program without risk stratification. Women in the intervention group had their 10-year breast cancer risk assessed using the comprehens

Topographic sketching for surgical planning after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer: a non-invasive localization method.

PURPOSE: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is widely adopted as the standard treatment for locally advanced breast cancer. However, following NAC, tumors may become non-palpable due to complete or partial response, making it challenging to achieve adequate margins in breast-conserving surgery (BCS). Various tumor localization techniques have been developed to address this issue. This study compares traditional clip and wire-guided marking (Radiological Marking, RM) with a non-invasive technique called Topographic Sketching (TS). METHODS: This retrospective study included 208 patients who underwen

Hormone Receptor-Positive Encapsulated Papillary Carcinoma of the Breast With High-Grade Cytological Features: A Case Report With Invasive Heterogeneity.

BACKGROUND Encapsulated papillary carcinoma (EPC) with high-grade cytological features of the breast is an uncommon neoplasm characterized by aggressive biological behavior, histopathological heterogeneity, and a potential for invasion. Although typical EPCs usually present as low- to intermediate-grade lesions, those with high-grade cytological features are rare and poorly described in the literature. The diagnostic challenge lies in distinguishing these tumors from invasive papillary or ductal carcinomas and determining appropriate management strategies. CASE REPORT We describe the case of a

Predictors of Satisfaction with Breasts and Psychosocial Well-Being After Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy.

BACKGROUND: Nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) confers similarly excellent patient-reported outcomes (PROs) as skin-sparing mastectomy; however, the relative weight of individual patient- and treatment-related factors on satisfaction with breasts and psychosocial well-being following NSM is unclear. We assessed predictors of PROs following NSM. METHODS: Patients undergoing NSM between April 2018 and July 2021 at a single institution were included in a prospective examination. Routinely collected preoperative and postoperative BREAST-Q responses were recorded. Univariable and multivariable linear

Association of longitudinal changes in nutritional status with survival outcomes in childhood cancer.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Malnutrition is common among children with cancer in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Although baseline undernutrition has been associated with complications and inferior outcomes, prospective data evaluating how longitudinal nutritional changes relate to survival are limited. In this study we aimed to study the longitudinal changes in anthropometric measures during treatment of childhood cancer and their association with event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS). METHODS: Children aged 18 years or younger with a new diagnosis of malignancy between August

Intraprostatic PSMA PET/MRI parameters and clinical markers for ISUP prediction and postoperative biochemical recurrence in patients with primary prostate cancer.

PURPOSE: PSMA PET/MRI pairs high sensitivity for PSMA-avid lesions with superior soft-tissue contrast and provides quantitative metrics that may predict clinical outcomes of prostate cancer (PCa). We investigated whether intraprostatic PET-derived metrics and PSA-based variables predict histopathological ISUP grade and biochemical recurrence (BCR) after radical prostatectomy (RPE). METHODS: Men with primary PCa who underwent [⁶⁸Ga]PSMA PET/MRI before RPE were retrospectively analyzed. PET-derived tumor metrics, initial PSA (iPSA), PSA density (PSAD), and ISUP grade were assessed for associatio
