Systolic blood pressure modifies the association between triglyceride-glucose-waist-to-height ratio and cardiovascular disease: a nationwide cohort study.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Triglyceride-glucose-waist-to-height ratio (TyG-WHtR) index and blood pressure are independent predictors of cardiovascular disease risk. However, the interaction between these factors in Cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk stratification remains underexplored. This cohort study explored the association between TyG-WHtR and CVD risk stratified by systolic blood pressure (SBP) to disentangle their complex interaction effects in middle-aged and older Chinese populations. METHODS AND RESULT: A total of 6542 participants without CVD at baseline were recruited from the China Heal

Long-term stability after non-surgical furcation retreatment with adjunctive collagen hydrogel.

BACKGROUND: Management of inflammation at previously surgically treated periodontal sites represents a clinical challenge. Although surgical retreatment may be indicated in selected cases, a conservative non-surgical approach may restore periodontal stability while avoiding the additional morbidity associated with repeated surgery. This case report describes the long-term management of a previously surgically treated mandibular molar furcation using site-specific non-surgical retreatment combined with adjunctive application of a collagen-based hydrogel. METHODS: A 45-year-old non-smoking male

An examination of chronotype associations with symptoms of depression, PTSD, and sleep disturbances in US military veterans.

PURPOSE: Chronotype is associated with depression and PTSD, which are common mental health conditions among military veterans. Few studies have examined chronotype in this population, which is known to also have more severe sleep difficulties than non-veteran community-residing adults. METHODS: In the current study, self-reported sleep and mental health symptoms were examined by chronotype using data collected from US military veterans (N = 144) participating in a multi-site post-deployment health repository. Analysis of covariance was used to assess symptom measure differences by chronotype

Randomized, single-centre, double-blinded repeated dose investigation of safety and tolerability of ocular administrations of a novel silica eye drop product in healthy volunteers.

PURPOSE: Managing ocular diseases often requires frequent eye drop administration, which can challenge patient compliance. A long-acting eye drop technology using an amorphous synthetic silica composite was developed to address this. Our study aimed to assess the safety and tolerability of the Silica Eye Drop platform in healthy volunteers over 15 days. METHODS: Twelve healthy volunteers participated in a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial of the Silica Eye Drop Product, containing no active substance. Participants received one drop in one eye daily for 13 days, with the oth

Cobblestone-like Gastric Mucosal Changes on Endoscopy in Dogs with a History of Prolonged Proton Pump Inhibitor Therapy.

This study describes the clinicopathological features of seven canine cases showing a diffuse cobblestone-like gastric mucosal pattern on endoscopy. Cases were retrospectively retrieved from endoscopic databases (2017-2025). Clinical data, treatment history, endoscopic findings, and histology were reviewed. Endoscopically, all dogs exhibited thickened, irregular, and poorly distensible gastric folds. Histopathologic examination showed mild-to-moderate foveolar hyperplasia, variable cystic dilation of the fundic glands, mild chronic lymphoplasmacytic inflammation, and interstitial fibrosis. Par

Comparative Evaluation of Oral Health Status in Patients Undergoing Orthodontic Treatment With Clear Aligner Therapy Versus Conventional Fixed Appliance Therapy: An Umbrella Review.

Orthodontic treatment serves an essential function in correcting malocclusion and improving both function and esthetics, but different appliance systems can influence oral health outcomes due to variations in plaque accumulation, gingival response, and enamel demineralization. Clear aligner therapy (CAT) has gained recognition as a substitute for traditional fixed appliance therapy (CFAT), asserting advantages such as improved oral hygiene and fewer periodontal issues. This overview assesses and integrates results from current systematic reviews and meta-analyses that compare the oral health c

Prepubertal Growth Trajectory and Pubertal Onset.

IMPORTANCE: Adiposity has been reported to be a major contributor to earlier pubertal timing, but most pediatric studies have relied on body mass index (BMI) from single or short-term measurements. Studies tracking growth repeatedly from birth to puberty are needed. OBJECTIVE: To explore the association of growth trajectory and cumulative exposure to different levels of adiposity (CEA) with pubertal onset across the first decade of life and identify sensitive periods for possible weight intervention. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This population-based cohort study included data from 2 b

Effects of a 12-week Tai Chi program on postural stability and gait biomechanics in prefrail older adults: a randomized controlled study.

BACKGROUND: Prefrailty is a reversible transitional stage of frailty and is associated with impaired postural stability and increased fall risk. Tai Chi may improve balance-related performance in older adults, but its effects on postural stability and gait biomechanics in prefrail populations remain insufficiently characterized. METHODS: In this single-blind randomized controlled trial, 68 prefrail older adults defined by the Fried Frailty Phenotype were allocated to a Tai Chi plus health education group or a health education control group. Sixty-four participants completed the study (mean ag

Conservative Management of Tibialis Anterior Muscle Herniation Prior to Surgical Intervention: A Case Report.

Muscle herniation is a rare condition characterized by protrusion of muscle tissue through a fascial defect, most commonly involving the tibialis anterior muscle. We report the case of a 55-year-old man presenting with a painful intermittent swelling on the anterolateral aspect of the right leg that became more prominent during standing and physical activity following a remote history of trauma. Physical examination revealed a soft, tender mass over the middle third of the leg without neurological deficits. Dynamic ultrasonography demonstrated a fascial defect with protrusion of the tibialis a

Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor-Induced Pancreatic Injury: An Emerging Form of Immune-Mediated Pancreatitis.

BACKGROUND: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) are increasingly utilized in cancer management due to their favorable outcomes. Pancreatic injury from ICIs (ICI-PI) is a heterogenous entity ranging from silent lipase elevation to clinical pancreatitis. Its distinct immunologic mechanisms and phenotype position it as a novel form of immune-mediated pancreatic injury. METHODS: We performed a narrative review of the emerging literature on ICI-PI, highlighting its mechanisms, epidemiology, clinical and imaging features, histology, management, outcomes, and critical knowledge gaps. RESULTS: ICI-PI

Successful Treatment of Oxaliplatin-Induced Immune Thrombocytopenia in a Schizophrenic Patient With Contraindication to Steroids Using Cyclosporine Plus Eltrombopag: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Oxaliplatin is widely used in the treatment of gastrointestinal tumors but is associated with rare adverse effects, including immune thrombocytopenia. The incidence of oxaliplatin-associated immune thrombocytopenia (OIIT) may be frequently overlooked due to its rarity, and in some cases, it can be difficult to treat. We present our successful experience with the use of combination therapy consisting of cyclosporine and eltrombopag in one patient, who was not suitable for steroid medication due to schizophrenia and had failed to respond when treated with eltrombopag alone. Multimodal Evaluation of Body Composition and Muscle Strength in Women Before and After Bariatric Surgery: A Clinical Observational Study.

Background and Objectives: Obesity has been increasing sharply worldwide and is related to diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, liver disease, and cancer. Sleeve gastrectomy is the most used surgical approach to reduce body weight and treat metabolic implications observed in patients with moderate-to-severe obesity. On the other hand, this procedure affects the musculoskeletal system, and investigating skeletal muscle is not routinely recommended for bariatric surgery. This study aimed to evaluate the psoas muscle in patients in the preoperative period of sleeve gastrectomy and six months after

Surgical Management of Symptomatic Progressive Monostotic Fibrous Dysplasia of the Rib: A Case Report.

Fibrous dysplasia is a benign skeletal disorder characterized by replacement of normal bone with fibrous tissue and immature bone, leading to bone fragility, deformity, and pain. The most common presentation is the monostotic form, which is frequently asymptomatic, whereas the polyostotic form is typically more extensive and symptomatic. Management is usually conservative, consisting of clinical and imaging surveillance and pain control, although selected symptomatic cases may benefit from surgical intervention. We report the case of a 33-year-old male who previously underwent partial resectio

Sex disparities in patients undergoing metabolic bariatric surgery: Data from a national registry.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Sex and menopause status are associated with substantial differences in body composition and cardiometabolic risk, Men, premenopausal women, and postmenopausal women therefore exhibit distinct metabolic and clinical profiles. Current metabolic bariatric surgery (MBS) eligibility is largely based on BMI thresholds; moreover a substantial sex disparity exists in MBS utilization, with approximately 80 % of the treated patients being female. This may contribute to the undertreatment of patients with a high disease burden. Considering these biological and metabolic difference.
