Trends in uterine cancer incidence and mortality: insights from a natural history model.

BACKGROUND: Uterine cancer incidence and mortality are increasing, with concomitant disparities in outcomes between racial groups. Natural history modeling can evaluate risk factors, predict future trends, and simulate approaches to reducing mortality and disparities. METHODS: We designed a natural history model of uterine cancer using a multistage clonal expansion design. The model is informed by National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, National Health Examination Survey, age, time period, birth cohort, and birth certificate data on reproductive histories and body mass index (BMI).

Case Report: Diagnosis of cervical carcinoma from pelvic tumor during pregnancy.

Cervical cancer, the fourth most prevalent cancer in women, is the most common malignant tumor of the female reproductive system and one of the most frequently diagnosed cancers during pregnancy. In Brazil, cervical cancer screening is conducted via Pap smear examination of the cervix, with a false-negative rate ranging between 2 and 50%. Colposcopy is recommended when the Pap smear results reveal abnormalities suggestive of malignancy, and biopsy is reserved for patients who are pregnant only when invasive lesions are suspected. We report the case of a pregnant woman who developed a tumor in

Barriers to Cervical Cancer Screening through Pap Smear Examination among Women Attending the Gynecology Polyclinic at Dr. Zainoel Abidin General Hospital in 2024: A Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer remains the fourth most common cancer among women globally and a leading cause of cancer-related mortality in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Despite the availability of effective screening methods such as the Pap smear, screening uptake remains suboptimal. Barriers such as limited awareness, socioeconomic challenges, cultural beliefs, and inadequate access to healthcare services contribute to this gap. Identifying these factors is essential to inform effective interventions and reduce cervical cancer mortality. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to identify the

Role of Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) Expression as a Prediction of Persistent Cervical Low Grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesion (LSIL).

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer rates have been decreasing due to improved screening programs targeting HPV infections. Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia (CIN), including CIN 1, can regress, persist, or progress, leading to patient anxiety. The expression of Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) may serve as an indicator of poor cancer outcomes and could potentially predict the persistence of CIN 1. OBJECTIVES: To assess the relationship between COX-2 expression and the persistence of low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL) or CIN 1. Additionally, to compare baseline characteristics between patient

BACKGROUND: In low- and middle-income countries, cervical cancer remains a leading cause of death and morbidity for women. Early detection and treatment of precancerous lesions are critical in cervical cancer prevention, and colposcopy is a primary diagnostic tool for identifying cervical lesions and guiding biopsies. The transformation zone (TZ) is where a stratified squamous epithelium develops from the metaplasia of simple columnar epithelium and is the most common site of precancerous lesions. However, inexperienced colposcopists may find it challenging to accurately identify the type and

Effect of HPV integration on prognosis of young women with CIN2 in China: protocol for a multicentre prospective cohort study.

INTRODUCTION: Cervical cancer, a major global health concern, is primarily caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Although cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 (CIN2), a precancerous lesion, exhibits high spontaneous regression rates (50%-60%), particularly in younger women, current clinical management lacks accurate risk stratification. This study examines HPV integration status as a prognostic biomarker in women aged 18-45 diagnosed with CIN2, with the objective of developing a predictive tool for personalised therapeutic strategies and minimising overtreatment in this high-re
