Midfacial Structural Aging and Its Association With Fracture Distribution: Insights From CT Images.

Facial structures and fracture patterns change with aging; however, the relationship between midfacial skeletal aging and fracture distribution remains unclear. We retrospectively analyzed clinical records and computed tomography scans of 186 patients with facial trauma (aged 1-90 years). Among patients with fractures (n = 117), nasal fractures were significantly and independently associated with younger age ( P = 0.023), whereas zygomaticomaxillary complex fractures were significantly and independently associated with older age ( P = 0.039). In patients without facial fractures (n = 69), the

Combining cryopreserved autografts and vascularized bone flap for craniofacial defect reconstruction in fibrous dysplasia: a case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Polyostotic fibrous dysplasia (PFD) is a rare, benign skeletal disorder characterized by the replacement of normal bone with fibro-osseous tissue. Craniofacial involvement often results in progressive deformities, functional impairments, and aesthetic concerns. Surgical intervention aims to remove diseased bone and restore structure and function, employing techniques like vascularized bone flaps, autografts, and cryopreserved bone. This report presents a case utilizing cryopreservation combined with vascularized fibula flap for craniofacial reconstruction. CASE PR

Assessment and localization of the posterior superior alveolar artery in lateral window approach for maxillary sinus floor elevation.

BACKGROUND: Maxillary sinus (MS) floor elevation using the lateral window approach is a predictable technique for bone augmentation in the posterior maxilla. However, injury to the posterior superior alveolar artery (PSAA) during osteotomy can result in significant intraoperative bleeding and compromise surgical visibility. This study aimed to evaluate the presence, anatomical location, and vertical distance of the PSAA using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and to analyze its relationship with the vertical position of the simulated lateral window relative to the sinus floor, relevant to s

Anatomical variations of the maxillary sinuses: A cross-sectional study.

Anatomical variations of the maxillary sinus have important clinical implications, yet factors influencing maxillary sinus volume (MSV) remain debated. The present study evaluated MSV and related anatomical variations in an Iraqi population using multi-slice computed tomography. Sinus dimensions and volume were measured using the Radiant DICOM viewer, and variations including infraorbital nerve (ION) protrusion, septation, Haller cells, and hypoplasia were assessed. Maxillary sinus asymmetry was common. Males demonstrated significantly larger sinus volumes on both sides compared with females (

Platelet-rich fibrin as a therapeutic modality for oroantral communication closure: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Oroantral communication (OAC) is an abnormal connection between the oral cavity and maxillary sinus, often occurring after posterior maxillary tooth extraction. If untreated, OAC can progress to oroantral fistulas (OAFs), leading to chronic sinusitis and treatment failure. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), an autologous biomaterial with regenerative potential, has been proposed as a therapeutic option. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of PRF in the closure of OACs/OAFs. METHODS: This systematic review and meta-analysis followed PRISMA guidelines and was registered wi
