Phenol for pilonidal sinus disease: a nationwide survey of practice patterns and safety gaps among surgeons in Türkiye.

BACKGROUND: Phenol is widely used as a minimally invasive treatment for pilonidal sinus disease (PSD); however, its clinical application is characterized by substantial heterogeneity in indications, technique, dosing, and safety practices. Despite its routine use in outpatient settings, standardized safety frameworks addressing occupational exposure, environmental controls, and dose documentation are lacking. These gaps may have important implications for both patient outcomes and workplace safety. This nationwide survey aimed to characterize real-world phenol practice patterns among surgeons

Case Report: Endoscopic-guided electrochemotherapy combined with metronomic chemotherapy for the treatment of nasal tumors in dogs.

Electrochemotherapy is a local anticancer treatment used for selected cutaneous tumors, but its application in veterinary medicine for nasal neoplasms is only rarely reported. Two dogs with endonasal tumors, ineligible for radiotherapy, underwent endoscopic-guided electrochemotherapy (ECT). Each cycle included three sessions spaced 3 weeks apart. Under general anesthesia and endoscopic guidance, bleomycin (20,000 IU/m2) was administered intravenously, followed by bipolar electroporation via a new single needle electrode. Palliative metronomic chemotherapy (piroxicam, thalidomide, and cyclophos

Telehealth education for patients with cancer: a standalone solution for symptom relief?

BACKGROUND: Telehealth-delivered education offers a practical approach to chemotherapy teaching and symptom self-management support. Advanced practice providers (APPs) play an increasingly vital role in guiding oncology patients through treatment, particularly in managing symptoms and reducing preventable emergency department (ED) use. This study evaluated whether an APP-led telehealth symptom education and monitoring (TSEM) intervention improved symptom self-management engagement and reduced ED utilization in patients with cancer. METHODS: This retrospective study included 120 patients with

A Stretchable, Transparent, Photothermally Stimulated Laser-Induced Graphene Patch for Noninvasive Skin Tumor Treatment.

Melanoma causes over 80% of skin cancer-related deaths, with conventional therapies hampered by its aggressiveness, metastasis, and drug resistance. Noninvasive, biocompatible strategies are promising for next-generation cancer treatments. Herein, we developed a soft, stretchable laser-induced graphene (LIG)-Cu/PDMS patch, consisting of CuO-embedded LIG (active component) and biocompatible PDMS (flexible matrix). Chemically inert and breathable, the patch minimizes toxic side effects. Upon photothermal activation, it releases Cu2+ that accumulates in melanoma tissue. In a mouse model, two 1-h

Barriers and facilitators of deprescribing for older adults with cancer and polypharmacy.

INTRODUCTION: Polypharmacy affects up to 93% of older adults with cancer and increases risks of treatment toxicity, drug interactions, and adverse outcomes. Deprescribing, the planned discontinuation of potentially inappropriate medications, can mitigate these risks. However, deprescribing interventions in oncology clinics remain understudied outside palliative care settings. This study aimed to identify barriers and facilitators to deprescribing in the oncology clinic across multiple stakeholder groups. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between November 2020 and August 2021, virtual focus groups were c

Evaluating the efficacy of photobiomodulation therapy in the management of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy: a pilot trial (NEUROLIGHT trial).

Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common side effect of chemotherapy that hinders the patient’s health-related quality of life (HRQL). Managing CIPN often requires a chemotherapy dose reduction or premature cessation of treatment. Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy uses visible or (near)-infrared light to target tissue and stimulate cell repair processes. This trial aimed to evaluate PBM’s efficacy in managing CIPN. A randomised, controlled trial was performed with sixty cancer patients with CIPN at Jessa Hospital (Belgium). Patients underwent six PBM sessions with a fluence

Usability and Acceptance Testing of an Electronic Patient-Reported Outcome Symptom Monitoring System for People Receiving Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors: Mixed Methods Study.

BACKGROUND: Immune checkpoint inhibitors are widely used in oncology but can cause immune-related adverse events (irAEs), which may be severe or life-threatening if not detected early. Electronic patient-reported outcome (ePRO) symptom monitoring systems may facilitate timely recognition and management of irAEs. Usability testing is a critical stage in ePRO system development, yet no published examples of formal usability and acceptance testing exist. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to assess the usability and acceptance of a co-designed ePRO symptom monitoring prototype for irAEs embedded within

Multivalent Atezolizumab-Liposome Conjugates as Active Immunotherapeutic Platforms for Enhanced PD-L1 Blockade in Melanoma.

PURPOSE: Anti-programmed death ligand-1 monoclonal antibody (anti-PD-L1 mAb) therapy has demonstrated notable clinical success. However, efficacy is often limited by transient interactions at the tumor-immune interface, limiting sustained immune activation. To address this, we hypothesized that liposomal delivery of anti-PD-L1 mAbs could enhance therapeutic efficacy. Nanosystems may increase binding avidity and prolong cell-surface retention, and enable multivalent antibody presentation through conjugation of multiple antibodies onto a single liposome. METHODS: In this study, we engineered mu

Hypofractionated radiotherapy across cancer sites: a narrative review of evidence and implementation.

Hypofractionated radiotherapy (HFRT), which delivers higher doses per fraction in fewer treatment sessions, represents a practical form of de-escalation in radiation by shortening overall treatment time and reducing patient burden. This narrative review summarizes the current evidence for HFRT across various malignancies. For breast cancer, randomized trials including the START trials and JCOG 0906 have established moderate HFRT (40-42.56 Gy in 15-16 fractions) as standard care after breast-conserving surgery. In localized prostate cancer, multiple trials have demonstrated equivalent biochemic

Exercise during chemotherapy or chemoradiotherapy and treatment delivery and tumor response outcomes: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Exercise during cancer treatment has been proposed not only as supportive care but also as a biologically active intervention with potential systemic effects. Mechanistic studies suggest that exercise modulates immune function and induces systemic signaling through exerkines, which may influence responsiveness to cancer therapies. However, evidence regarding exercise effects on treatment delivery, such as relative dose intensity, treatment completion, and tumor response, remains limited and heterogeneous. This scoping review aimed to map and summarize existing literature on associa
