Validity of Administrative ICD-10 Diagnosis Codes for Ventricular Arrhythmia and Cardiac Arrest in a French University Hospital.

PURPOSE: Drug-induced QT interval prolongation increases the risk of ventricular arrhythmias and cardiac arrest. Assessing these outcomes in electronic health databases and evaluating their association with drug exposure requires prior validation of administrative diagnostic codes. This study aimed to evaluate the positive predictive value (PPV) of International Classification of Diseases, 10th revision (ICD-10) codes for ventricular arrhythmias and cardiac arrest in the French hospital discharge summary database (Programme de Médicalisation des Systèmes d'Information (PMSI)). METHODS: In a r

Case Report: Treatment of subthreshold bipolar disorder in pregnancy: a report on the effectiveness of the Zamar Protocol® in three treatment-resistant depression cases.

INTRODUCTION: Subthreshold bipolar disorder (SBD), also referred to as unspecified bipolar disorder, is frequently encountered in patients with treatment-resistant depression. It presents with depressive and subthreshold manic and mixed symptoms. Sustained remission with full functional recovery is the aim of treatment in mood disorders as residual symptoms may cause disability, while relapse may be associated with increased morbidity or mortality. To date, evidence for achieving sustained remission in SBD is absent, with no studies reporting sustained remission outcomes. The only available ev

Healthcare-associated infections in Singapore's long-term acute care hospitals: results from the first national point prevalence survey.

BACKGROUND: While healthcare-associated infection (HAI) surveillance in Singapore's acute care hospitals is well established, comparable data from long-term acute care hospitals (LTACHs), known as community hospitals, are limited. We conducted the first national point prevalence survey (PPS) to determine HAI prevalence in Singapore LTACHs. METHODS: A standardized protocol adapted from the Singapore acute care hospital HAI PPS protocol, which was adapted from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control protocol for acute care hospitals, was implemented across 9 LTACHs. Accuracy of New Hypertensive Crisis Diagnoses Using International Classification of Disease (ICD)-10: A Validation Study in a National Medicare Sample.

The incidence of hypertensive (HTN) crises in older adults has more than doubled over the past two decades. ICD-10 introduced codes for HTN urgency and emergency, but their validity has not been evaluated. We analyzed a 20% national sample of fee-for-service Medicare beneficiaries aged ≥66 years (2016-2019). Medical records were reviewed for 220 randomly sampled emergency department visits or hospitalizations with a primary ICD-10 HTN crisis code (100 HTN urgency [I16.0], 100 HTN emergency [I16.1] and 20 unspecified [I16.9]). Physicians abstracted and adjudicated cases. Two gold standards (GS)

Qualitative analysis of mental health clinicians' perspectives on external barriers to diagnosing anxiety disorders in the Veterans Health Administration.

Anxiety disorders have increased over the past decade, affecting millions worldwide. Among veterans, the prevalence is at least double that of the general population. Despite growing recognition of the need for appropriate treatment, frequent labeling of patients with an "unspecified anxiety disorder" diagnosis hinders targeted treatments. This study examines why clinicians use unspecified anxiety disorder diagnoses without a subsequent specific anxiety disorder diagnosis and explores external factors that influence clinicians' diagnostic decisions. We conducted semistructured interviews in 20

Epidemiology of unspecified degenerative nervous system disorders: mortality trends via CDC WONDER (1999-2025).

BACKGROUND: Unspecified degenerative nervous system disorders (ICD-10 G31.9) increasingly contribute to neurological mortality, yet national temporal patterns remain unclear. METHODS: We analyzed U.S. mortality data (1999–2025) from CDC WONDER. Age-adjusted mortality rates (AAMRs) were analyzed using Joinpoint regression to estimate annual percent changes (APCs), stratified by sex, race, urbanization, and census regions. Sensitivity analyses assessed stability. RESULTS: Overall, AAMR increased from 0.66 per 1,000,000 in 1999 to 1.44 per 1,000,000 in 2025. The trend showed four joinpoints: from

State Policy Variation and Telehealth Use by Oncology Specialists Treating Medicaid Patients.

Telehealth may improve access to specialized oncology care for Medicaid beneficiaries with hematological malignancies who face geographic and financial barriers. During the COVID-19 public health emergency, telehealth use expanded rapidly, yet state policies governing telehealth coverage/payment parity varied. Evidence is limited on how these policy differences influenced oncology telehealth use for Medicaid patients. We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of 2020-2021 multistate Medicaid claims. Adult and pediatric oncology specialists were identified based on board certification data. Teleh

Patient Characteristics and Surgical Techniques for Midline/Median Cleft Lip: A Scoping Review.

ObjectiveWhile median cleft lip (MCL) remains rare, improvements in prenatal and postnatal care have improved survival past the neonatal period and thus have increased consideration of surgical repair. MCL is also anatomically distinct from unilateral and bilateral cleft lips and is associated with underlying genetically based syndromes. There is a lack of aggregated data on MCL, and this study provides an overview of the literature, characterizes associated phenotypes, and synthesizes surgical and follow-up management.DesignFollowing Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-A
