Decoupling Geometry and Surface Chemistry in 3D-Printed ALD-Functionalized Porous Ceramic Channels.

Capillary-driven transport is traditionally attributed to the static pore geometry and wettability. However, the time-dependent surface energy of metal oxides, amplified by the high surface area of porous media, remains a key yet underexplored aspect. This study introduces a novel manufacturing route capable of decoupling macroscopic geometry from surface chemistry by integrating additive manufacturing combined with colloidal assembly (AMCA) and functionalization by atomic layer deposition (ALD). This approach enables the fabrication of highly porous aluminum-(III) oxide (Al2O3) and titanium d

Toward a resilient opioid treatment workforce: Clinical supervision, training, and trauma-related functioning in a multistate study.

Staff in opioid treatment programs (OTPs) face elevated risk of secondary traumatic stress, yet the availability and effectiveness of training and clinical supervision to address this risk remain unclear. This study characterized current OTP training and supervision practices and examined their associations with staff vicarious trauma (VT) and burn-out. In a cross-sectional survey of OTPs, administrators (N = 44, 21 U.S. states) reported on staff training. Staff (N = 83) completed validated measures of VT and burnout. Counselors (n = 30) reported on clinical supervision. Training in VT and bur

Burnout in Embryologists Working in Assisted Reproduction: Data from a Cross-Sectional Worldwide Study.

OBJECTIVES: Recent studies have highlighted the concerning prevalence of burnout among embryologists working in assisted reproduction (AR), with embryologists showing the highest levels among AR professionals. How-ever, data on burnout among these professionals across different world regions remain very limited. Therefore, this study aimed to assess burnout levels among embryologists across World Health Organization regions, with compari-sons among four regions. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study. Burnout was assessed using a worldwide online survey completed by 759 respondents from 74

Perspectives on peer recovery support for people experiencing homelessness: A qualitative study of key informants from national health care for the homeless programs.

INTRODUCTION: People experiencing homelessness face high rates of opioid use disorder (OUD) with substantial barriers to treatment. Peer recovery support-delivered by individuals with lived experience of substance use and recovery-has emerged as a promising strategy for improving OUD care. However, little is known about peer recovery support within Health Care for the Homeless (HCH) programs. METHODS: We conducted semi-structured qualitative interviews with 18 key informants from six stand-alone HCH programs across the United States, including program leaders (n = 6), OUD clinicians (n = 6),

Alleviating Job-Related Burnout in Medical Professionals through Guided Imagery Hypnotherapy.

This pilot study examines the impact of guided imagery hypnotherapy (GIH) on symptoms of job-related burnout in medical professionals. Nine adults (eight female) involved in direct medical care in the region of San Diego, California participated in eight consecutive weekly GIH sessions. Subjective measures of burn-out, compassion, and self-compassion were recorded roughly one week before the start of the hypnotherapy series (baseline session zero) and after the first, fourth, and final GIH sessions. Resting state electroencephalographic data (EEG) was also recorded at each of these measurement

Management of autoimmune hepatitis-related decompensated cirrhosis: current evidence and clinical decision-making.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) presenting with decompensated cirrhosis poses a major therapeutic dilemma for clinicians. Although the prompt initiation of immunosuppression (IS) can reverse disease activity and lead to the clinical resolution of decompensation, avoiding the need for liver transplantation (LT), it may also be futile or even harmful. International guidelines and cohort studies have begun to address this challenge, making it timely to synthesize available evidence and provide practical guidance for clinicians. RECENT FINDINGS: Emerging data highlight that the bene

Integrating network pharmacology to investigate the mechanism of esculetin from Nyctanthes arbor-tristis leaves against breast cancer.

UNLABELLED: The development of efficient treatment medicines with multitarget modes of action is necessary because breast cancer continues to be one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality among women worldwide. Although esculetin (6,7-dihydroxycoumarin), a naturally occurring phenolic compound, has demonstrated promising anticancer activity, its molecular mechanism against breast cancer remains poorly understood. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the therapeutic potential and underlying molecular mechanisms of esculetin against breast cancer using an integrated computationa

Lyell´s syndrome associated with the use of topical agents: case report.

UNLABELLED: Pseudomonas aeruginosa AG1 (PaeAG1) is a Costa Rican strain that was isolated in 2010 in a major Hospital. This strain has resistance to multiple antibiotics such as β-lactams (including carbapenems), aminoglycosides, and fluoroquinolones. PaeAG1 is considered critical (Priority 1) due to its resistance to carbapenems, and it was the first report of a P. aeruginosa isolate carrying both VIM-2 and IMP-18 genes encoding for metallo-β-lactamases (MBL) enzymes (both with carbapenemase activity). Owing to these traits, we have studied this model for 10 years using diverse approaches inc

Diagnostic performance of a dual western blot for the simultaneous detection of anti-HTLV-1 and anti-HIV-1 antibodies.

INTRODUCTION: There is no consistent definition of burnout. It is neither a defined diagnosis in ICD-10 nor in DSM-IV. Yet it is diagnosed by office-based doctors and clinicians. Mainly due to reimbursement reasons, diagnoses like depression are used instead of burnout diagnoses. Therefore burnout has a very high individual, social and economic impact. OBJECTIVES: How is burnout diagnosed? Which criteria are relevant? How valid and reliable are the used tools? What kind of disorders in case of burnout are relevant for a differential diagnosis? What is the economic effect of a differential diagn

In many voices: exploring end-of-life care through patient, caregiver and physician narratives.

As the focus on end-of-life care intensifies, so too does the need to better understand the experiences of patients, caregivers and physicians. Delivering empathetic care requires a shared understanding of illness and its meaning and impact. The narratives of patients, caregivers and physicians each offer a distinct perspective on clinical experiences, yet comparative research is uncommon. This study compares written narratives about end-of-life illness and care by these groups. We created an archive of 332 first-person written narratives about end of life (patient=65, caregiver=156, physician=

What about physician wellness? Impact of a quality improvement intervention.

BACKGROUND: Emergency department (ED) consultations with general internal medicine (GIM) are required when patients need admission, assistance with safe disposition or evaluation and management of complex or acute medical needs. GIM physicians often balance responsibilities between hospital wards and the ED, which can lead to delayed ED consultations, difficulty balancing workload and potential burn-out. To address this issue, a quality improvement (QI) initiative was trialled, establishing a dedicated GIM ED consultation service to manage these duties independently. This study aimed to evalua
