Advanced Practice Nursing Development Within Diverse Regulatory Landscapes: A Descriptive Survey of European Countries.

AIM: To explore the relationship between professional regulatory systems and advanced practice nursing development in Europe. BACKGROUND: Advanced practice nursing has expanded rapidly, yet regulatory frameworks have often struggled to keep pace with the extended scope of practice demanded by contemporary service delivery. Misalignment leaves new roles inadequately supported, with consequences for both patient safety and the broader transformative potential of the profession. METHODS: For this cross-sectional descriptive study, key informants were recruited by purposive sampling across the W

Lived experiences and impacts of female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C): a meta-ethnographic synthesis.

BACKGROUND: This meta-ethnographic review synthesised qualitative evidence on the lived experiences and impacts of female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C). By incorporating insights from individuals who have undergone FGM/C, men and healthcare providers caring for affected populations, the study enriches understanding of the practice and its multifaceted consequences. METHODS: Using Noblit and Hare's seven-stage meta-ethnographic framework, an inductive and interpretive synthesis was conducted. A comprehensive search of electronic databases, including PubMed/Medline, ScienceDirect, Google S

Global progress in preventing violence against children through data and evidence for action.

Violence against children is a pervasive global public health, human rights, and development challenge. Over the past 50 years, the field has transformed violence against children from a largely hidden issue into a measurable and preventable problem. This discussion article examines two major drivers of global progress: population-based data systems and evidence-based prevention and response frameworks. First, violence-specific surveys, including the Violence Against Children and Youth Surveys (VACS), have generated nationally representative data on the prevalence, timing, perpetrators, conseq

Experiences providing care to patients with mental health conditions in a tertiary care hospital emergency department in Jerusalem.

The emergency department (ED) often serves as the first point of care for those with mental health conditions. Mental health-related visits to the ED tend to increase during and after public health crises. In Israel, the war that started in 2023 has had substantial adverse effects on the population's mental health, increasing the need for emergency services for people with mental health conditions. This article examines the perceptions and experiences of Israeli staff providing care to patients with mental health conditions in an ED of a tertiary-care hospital in Jerusalem. Based on an inducti

Determinants of Health Research Evidence Utilization in the Health Planning of Tanzania: Perspectives of Participants From a Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: The utilization of health research evidence is essential for informed decision-making, especially in health planning and achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC). However, limited information exists regarding its use in planning in Lower Middle-Income Countries (LMICs), including Tanzania. This study assessed the use of health research evidence and factors influencing its utilization among health planning teams. METHODS: A descriptive qualitative approach was used to examine determinants of evidence use in health planning. Data were collected through six focus group discussions a

Beyond a buzzword: the need for shared language, education, and enhanced reporting of disability inclusive co-design research.

BACKGROUND: Co-design is an increasingly prominent method for achieving disability-inclusive research. Co-design draws attention to the value of involving people with lived experience of disability in shaping research questions, methods, and outcomes, making it an ideal vehicle for inclusion. Yet, the rise in popularity of co-design in disability research has created challenges. Inconsistent definitions, misaligned practices, and inadequate reporting have undermined both the rigour of the method and its potential to generate meaningful and impactful outcomes. DISCUSSION: In this commentary, we

Undergraduate nursing students' experiences with evidence-based practice during clinical internship: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Evidence-Based Practice (EBP)—particularly in its nursing application, often termed Evidence-Based Nursing (EBN)—is essential for high-quality care. Yet its integration into clinical practice remains challenging for undergraduate nursing students. Gaps between theory and practice, limited statistical and literature appraisal skills, and unsupportive clinical environments hinder EBP adoption. In China, EBP implementation in clinical training is inconsistent, and students’ experiences are poorly understood. This study explores the EBP experiences of undergraduate nursing interns to i

Building Capacity in Crisis: Evaluating a Health Assistant Training Program for Young Rohingya Refugee Women.

BACKGROUND: The Rohingya refugee crisis is one of the largest humanitarian emergencies of the 21st century, with nearly one million Rohingya residing in overcrowded camps in southern Bangladesh. Women and children face the greatest vulnerabilities, including inadequate access to education and healthcare, which exacerbates their risks and limits opportunities for personal and community development. While international organizations continue to provide aid, resources remain insufficient, particularly in maternal and child healthcare, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable interventions. O

Research training in radiation oncology: a scoping review of global pathways, barriers and enablers.

BACKGROUND: There is a disparity between the importance of radiation oncology (RO) to cancer care and the research activity that underpins it. This may relate to inadequate availability of, or barriers within, residency research training. This scoping review sought to characterize the barriers and enablers to RO research training, and to summarize relevant training pathways. METHODS: Systematic Medline and Embase searches were conducted using "RO", "Исследование", "training", and related terms, to identify reports published between 2010 and 2025. Manuscripts were screened using predefined inclusi

Crucial Conversations: Psychiatric Diagnosis and Shared Decision-Making With Adolescents in the Age of Social Media and Artificial Intelligence.

Do psychiatrists need to talk more? We are taught to listen more than we speak, to invite the patient's narrative, and to observe its unspoken undertones. But are we vocal enough in sharing our formulations with patients and explaining our thought processes as we plan and prescribe treatment? Despite the evidence that providing psychoeducation to patients and families improves mental health outcomes, many providers forgo the opportunity to engage in it, perhaps because of time constraints, lack of reimbursement, or inadequate training and skills development in the practice.1 We need to talk mo

Barriers and enablers of research participation among undergraduate health students in Sub-Saharan Africa: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Research participation among undergraduate healthcare students (UHS) is widely recognized as key to their academic and professional development, as well as to developing future competent health workforce. However, in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), the participation of undergraduate health students in research remains limited. This review aims to systematically explore the barriers and enablers to research participation among UHS in SSA. METHODS: A systematic search was conducted across MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, CINAHL, and Web of Science databases for studies published in English from 2

Are you ready? A cross-sectional survey of education, training and learning activities for peacetime crisis and armed conflict preparedness in Swedish emergency departments.

The evolving security landscape in Europe underscores the crucial importance of disaster preparedness. Emergency Departments’ (EDs) personnel – comprising nurses, nurse assistants and physicians – play a vital role in managing crises during both peacetime and armed conflicts. However, readiness and educational preparation of Emergency Department (ED) personnel are inconsistent; consequently, Sweden’s National Board of Health and Welfare (NBHW) has introduced national recommendations concerning education and training for both peacetime crises and armed conflicts. This study aimed to investigate
