A giant solitary Peutz-Jeghers-type polyp in the gastric body.

A 24-year-old young female presented to our hospital with gastrointestinal bleeding for four days. The patient had no family history of polyps or cancer. There were no pigment spots on her skin, lips, or oral mucosa. For diagnostic purposes gastroscopy and colonoscopy were all performed. Gastroscopy revealed a pedunculated polyp with a size of approximately 2.5 * 2.5cm in the gastric body. Colonoscopy showed normal. Then the polyp was excised by electrocoagulation with a snare. After the polyp was excised, the bleeding stopped. Histopathological analysis revealed that the polyp was a Peutz-Jeg

False-Negative Screening and Diagnostic Mammograms in the National Mammography Database From 2010 to 2022.

BACKGROUND. False-negative (FN) mammograms typically delay breast cancer diagnoses and may impact clinical outcomes. However, systematic evaluations of FN mammograms are challenging to conduct due to the low incidence of interval cancers. OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the rates of FN screening and diagnostic mammograms in the NMD and to assess associations of FN rates with patient- and facility-level characteristics. METHODS. This retrospective study included all screening and diagnostic mammograms in the National Mammography Database (NMD) obtained from January 1, 2010,

Association between Participant Characteristics and Breast Parenchymal Texture Variation among Postmenopausal Women.

BACKGROUND: Mammographic parenchymal texture is a predictor of breast cancer risk, but knowledge of the clinical or epidemiologic factors that contribute to texture variability is limited. We evaluated the relationship between texture and breast cancer risk factors among women participating in mammography. METHODS: Postmenopausal women were invited to participate between October 2020 and July 2022. A total of 305 women provided informed consent. Participant characteristics were obtained from medical records and a questionnaire. A total of 344 texture features were extracted from 2D digital sc

Mammographic Density as a Mediator for Breast Cancer Risk: Pooled Analysis of Four Population-Based Case-Control Studies on Women with Screening Mammograms before Age 50.

BACKGROUND: Multiple risk factors influence breast cancer risk, but the role of percent mammographic density (PMD) in mediating these associations remains unclear. METHODS: In this pooled analysis of women who had screening mammograms before age 50 years, we assessed whether PMD mediates associations between reproductive, structural, and lifestyle factors and breast cancer risk. Causal mediation analysis was used to estimate direct and indirect effects and the proportion mediated by PMD. RESULTS: PMD partially mediated 29% of the association between breast calcifications and breast cancer ri

Identifying a Recurrent BRCA1 Variant in the Qatari Population With Unique Genotype-Phenotype Correlations.

BACKGROUND: Hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome (HBOC) is the most common cause of hereditary breast and ovarian cancers in Qatar and worldwide, which is caused by pathogenic variants in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. The aim of this retrospective study is to describe a common recurrent pathogenic variant in the BRCA1 gene that was observed in the native Qatari population with unique genotype-phenotype correlations. METHODS: Medical records of Qatari patients (affected and unaffected) with personal and/or family history of breast and ovarian cancers who carry pathogenic/likely pathogeni

A qualitative study exploring Malaysian women's preferences for authority or emotional appeals in public health messages promoting breast cancer screening.

Persuasive health communication is key to promoting breast cancer screening. Due to existing gaps over how public health messages should be framed, a study was conducted to explore the preferences and perceptions of Malaysian women towards messages that incorporate different types of appeals to promote breast cancer screening. In-depth qualitative interviews were conducted among Malaysian women aged 40 and above with no previous history of breast cancer or other cancers. They were exposed to messages that promoted breast cancer screening using seven different appeals; authority, hope, social,

Familial Aplasia Cutis Congenita With Exposure of the Meningeal Membrane: A Case Report.

Aplasia cutis congenita (ACC) is a rare congenital malformation characterized by the localized absence of skin and occasionally subcutaneous and bone tissues. Its etiology is multifactorial, and management ranges from conservative wound care to surgical intervention. We report the case of a male newborn presenting with a 4-5 cm ulcerated lesion at the vertex of the scalp, with complete absence of bone tissue and dural exposure. Physical examination revealed syndromic features (facial asymmetry, hypertelorism, low-set ears, and cutaneous syndactyly) and an atrial septal defect. A strong autosom

Diagnostic and Risk Stratification Value of Serum 8-Hydroxy-2-Deoxyguanosine in Women with Suspected Breast Carcinoma in Bangladesh: A Cross-Sectional Analytical Study.

Breast carcinoma is a leading cause of carcinoma-related morbidity and mortality among women worldwide, with a rising burden in low- and middle-income countries. Early differentiation between malignant and benign breast lesions remains a major challenge in resource-constrained settings, where access to imaging and histopathology is often limited. Oxidative DNA damage plays a key role in carcinogenesis and serum 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) has emerged as a potential non-invasive biomarker; however, evidence from Bangladesh is scarce. The objective of this study was to evaluate the diagn

Hematological complications in solid organ transplant recipients with telomere biology disorders: a narrative review.

Telomeres are repetitive nucleotide sequences at the ends of chromosomes that preserve genomic integrity. Defects in telomere maintenance mechanisms lead to premature telomere shortening, resulting in cellular senescence, apoptosis, and organ dysfunction, collectively termed telomere biology disorders (TBDs). Short telomere length is associated with an increased risk of end-stage fibrotic disease of the lung and/or liver, which may necessitate lung or liver transplantation. Beyond pulmonary and hepatic involvement, TBDs can also affect cardiac and renal function. Importantly, the bone marrow f

Development of IgE autoantibodies in newborns with atopic dermatitis (DIANA): protocol of a prospective, non-interventional, observational birth cohort.

INTRODUCTION: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, pruritic inflammatory skin disorder that typically begins in early childhood and affects up to 20% of children. Infants with a family history of allergic diseases or with elevated total IgE levels are at increased risk of developing AD. Emerging evidence shows that a subgroup of AD patients produce IgE autoantibodies against skin self-peptides, which are suggested to play a role in disease pathophysiology and predict the development of allergic diseases later in life. Notably, such autoantibodies have been detected in up to 15% of infants with
