Factors influencing the successful eruption of the maxillary third molar after extraction of the maxillary second molar.

INTRODUCTION: This study evaluated the occlusal status of the maxillary third molars that erupted spontaneously after extraction of the maxillary second molars and investigated the factors that influenced the occlusal status of the maxillary third molars. METHODS: We assessed 136 maxillary third molars in 87 patients. Alignment, marginal ridge discrepancy, occlusal contact, interproximal contact, and buccal overjet were used to score the occlusal status. Occlusal status was classified as good (G group), acceptable (A group), and poor (P group) for the maxillary third molar at its full eruptio

Radiographic Evaluation of Predictors for Spontaneous Space Closure and Supereruption After the Loss of Permanent First Molars in Yup'ik Children.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate pre-extraction variables associated with spontaneous space closure between the permanent second molar (PSM) and the second premolar following early extraction of the permanent first molar (PFM). Additionally, this study aimed to assess supereruption in compensated and uncompensated maxillary molars to determine if compensating extraction increases the odds of spontaneous space closure. METHODS: A total of 134 patients aged six to 12 years with extracted PFM(s) were evaluated for spontaneous man- dibular space closure. Panoramic radiographs we

The location of the permanent mandibular canine as identified in orthopantomograms from children younger than 5 years of age: a case series study.

AIM: The aim of this case series study is to describe where the crowns of the permanent mandibular canines are located in early childhood in relation to the preceding primary canines. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From a sample of 31 orthopantomograms from children, younger than 5 years of age, the location of the mandibular canines was analysed by visual inspection. The radiographs were taken due to different deviations in the dentition and forwarded during a period of 28 years for elucidating different diagnostic questions. From an embryological point of view, the primary canine was considered as

Incidence of Canine Impaction in Tribal Population of Jharkhand.

INTRODUCTION: The position of the canine has a key role in facial harmony, dental aesthetics, functional occlusion, and health of temperomandibular joint. Maxillary canine impaction is the second most common tooth after third molars impaction. Maxillary canines are more prone to impaction due to longer path of eruption. SETTINGS AND DESIGN: All the patients were examined in the Dental Chair light and referred to the department of Oral Radiology for Orthopantomogram. Yamamoto's classification was used to classify maxillary canine impaction. Position of mandibular canine from cement-enamel junc

Pseudo transposition of the mandibular lateral incisor to the first premolar space: A literature review and case series.

Tooth transposition is the positional interchange of two adjacent teeth, which may be incomplete or complete. The root apex may remain in a normal position despite a severely displaced crown. The aim of this paper is to provide a literature review on the incidence, aetiology and treatment options for pseudo-transposed mandibular incisors. A case series is also presented highlighting the various management techniques that have been utilised in treating five cases of pseudo-transposed mandibular lateral incisors.

Mandibular lateral incisor-first premolar transposition in early mixed dentition: a rare case.

Dental transposition is an anomaly of eruption which is usually seen in the maxilla and rarely in the mandible. The mandibular lateral incisor's transposition with the permanent canine has a prevalence of less than 0.03%. The following case presents an even rarer situation, of a right lateral mandibular incisor that erupted in the place of the first premolar, in transposition with the temporary canine. In the first phase, a series of extractions have been performed, to ensure the necessary free space for moving the lateral incisor closer to its appropriate place, and after that a fixed orthodo

Occurrence and Predictors of Postoperative Preauricular and Masticatory Muscle Pain Symptoms After Surgical Removal of Third Molars: A Single-Blind Randomized Controlled Trial Comparing Dental Assistants Supporting the Mandible and the Restful Jaw Device.

BACKGROUND: During third molar removal, the mandible is supported by a dental assistant (DA) to counter downward forces during surgery, and with sedation, to maintain airway patency. The Restful Jaw device (PEP Design; Saint Paul) provides this support instead of the DA. PURPOSE: This study compared the occurrence of postoperative preauricular and masticatory muscle pain symptoms (PMMPS) between the device and DAs providing mandibular support, using two outcome measures. Secondary aims identify predictors of outcome and providers' opinions of the device. STUDY DESIGN, SETTING, SAMPLE: In thi

[Classification of lower impacted third molars position and their interrelationship with mandibular canal].

Classification of lower Impacted third molars position and their interrelationship with mandibular canal have a great scientific, theoretical and practical importance. An attempt to systematize and classify all anatomical impacted third molars position has been made by many authors. Based on our scientific literature search, we found: 8 impacted third molars classifications, 7 third molars and mandibular canal interposition classifications, as well as 5 classifications of mandibular canal anatomical branching variants. Most classifications are proposed by the author to predict third molar erup

Tomographic analysis of relationship of mandibular morphology and third molars eruption.

BACKGROUND: Lower third molars (L3M) are the last teeth to erupt in the oral cavity. Uneruption of these teeth still raises questions about its causes, in the literature (1) genetic factors, (2) dental lamina activity and, mainly, (3) insufficient growth and development of the bone bases are included. While the lack of space theory influenced by mandibular morphology and size of L3M was argued to be the main reason for L3M impaction, there is a limitation in the literature in examining such association using more accurate tomographic analysis obtained from CBCT. This work aimed to evaluate the

Dental Anomaly in Hapalodectes dux (Hapalodectidae, Mesonychia) from the Late Paleocene of Mongolia.

The holotype of Hapalodectes dux Lopatin, 2001 from the Upper Paleocene of Mongolia (Tsagan-Khushu locality, Naran Bulak Formation, Zhigden Member) is a lower jaw with complete dentition, showing healed alveoli in place of the right P3. Examination of the holotype using X-ray microtomography revealed a rare dental anomaly previously unknown in fossil mammals, namely the presence of the inverted (positioned upside down and rotated lingual side labially) impacted premolar inside the dentary. The cause of this anomaly may be an aberration of a tooth bud location or an injury.

Central Odontogenic Fibroma of the Mandible in a 9-year-old Child: A Case Report with 24-month Follow-up.

BACKGROUND: Central odontogenic fibroma (COF) is a rarely benign tumor with an incidence of only 0.1% among all odontogenic tumors, which commonly involve the mandible. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 9-year-old child reported with asymptomatic bony expansion of the mandible, showing an unilocular radiolucency on an orthopantomogram. The tumor was managed surgically by enucleation, and the surgical stent was placed, which was later modified as a removable functional space maintainer. The patient was followed up for 24 months with the complete healing of periapical radiolucency and the eruption of displac

Orbital Schwannoma With Frontal Bone Lysis.

Orbital schwannoma is an exceptionally rare cause of ptosis. Diagnosis may be elusive given its slow rate of growth and its various presentations depending on localization. Herein, we report the case of a 50-year-old male who presented to our clinic with a complaint of unilateral, recurrent ptosis of the left eye. He underwent levator palpebrae resection, which was unsuccessful at improving his ptosis. He later represented with acute-onset diplopia for which magnetic resonance imaging was obtained. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a lesion in the superior orbit with secondary bony dehiscence
