Outcome of Temporalis Myofascial Flap in Maxillary Reconstruction.

The maxilla is an important component of the midfacial skeleton from both an aesthetic and functional view point. In addition to cosmetic impairment, surgical procedures in this region have substantial ramifications for speaking, swallowing and mastication, all of which may lead to psychological anguish for the patient. This necessitates rehabilitation with an obturator prosthesis or surgical reconstruction. The temporalis muscle flap has considerable potential for reconstructing various maxillofacial area abnormalities. It appears to be one of the finest solutions among all other regional fla

Association between maxillary central incisor tooth form and face shape using digital AutoCAD analysis in Pakistani adults.

Facial aesthetics depends on the harmony between facial features and dental morphology, specifically the link between face shape and maxillary central incisor form. Classical theories propose that tooth form corresponds to face outline; however, evidence across populations is inconsistent. With the development of digital tools, it is now feasible to analyse associations more precisely. Our study aims to evaluate the tooth form of various maxillary central incisors and their association with facial shape in males and females using AutoCAD software in a sample of the Pakistani population. The cr

In situ repair of a fractured zygomatic implant.

Zygomatic implants (ZIs) offer a robust solution for maxillary rehabilitation in patients with severe atrophy, oncological resection, or following trauma, where the use of conventional implants is not practical. However, because of their length, design, and placement, ZIs face mechanical challenges which can lead to complications such as fracture. This treatment details the novel, minimally invasive in situ repair of the fractured shaft of a ZI. The patient, diagnosed with carcinoma of the right maxillary sinus, was treated with hemimaxillectomy and conventional radiotherapy. She was restored

Objective Assessment of Combined Orbital Fat Repositioning and Fat Grafting in Upper Eyelid Hollowing.

BACKGROUND: Upper eyelid hollowing is a common manifestation of periorbital aging caused by soft-tissue atrophy and loss of orbital fat volume. Although various corrective techniques have been described, outcome assessment remains largely subjective. High-resolution ultrasonography may provide an objective and quantitative method for evaluating postoperative soft-tissue changes. OBJECTIVE: The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and stability of combined orbital fat repositioning and microfragmented autologous fat grafting for the correction of moderate upper eyelid hollowing, u

Efficacy and Outcomes of Pedicled Upper Orbital Fat Fascia Flap Transposition Using 3D Facial Scanning: A Retrospective Study.

BACKGROUND: Sunken upper eyelids convey an impression of fatigue. Pedicled orbital fat fascia flap (POFFF) transposition has been commonly adopted as an effective technique for augmenting upper eyelid volume. Nevertheless, objective quantitative assessments of the long-term volumetric outcomes remain lacking. This study aimed to assess upper eyelid volume changes and evaluate the efficacy of POFFF transposition in restoring volume using 3D facial scanning technology. METHODS: This retrospective study included 43 patients (86 upper eyelids) who underwent POFFF transposition between January 201

A computed tomography (CT) study of the eyeball position and estimation models for craniofacial identification.

Correctly setting the eyes within the orbits is an important first step in craniofacial identification. As several estimators often exist for each eyeball attribute, clarification of their accuracies in out-of-group samples is critical. In this study, we use CT scans from 58 individuals to assess standard errors (SEE) for published estimators, cross-validate methods and examine the linear regression utility of orbit volume for estimating eyeball protrusion. Our results confirm the eyeball to be positioned closer to the superior and lateral orbital walls (2.5 & 5.6 mm, respectively). Horizontal

A novel forensic protocol for age reversal facial approximation from elderly skulls using computed tomography scans, CAD techniques and anthropometric data.

This study presents a detailed protocol for reconstructing a realistic youthful face from the skull of an elderly individual, based on Computed Tomography (CT) scans. The methodology addresses critical age-related changes, including mandibular displacement, tooth loss, and the degradation of supporting bone structures. The soft tissue reconstruction adheres to current forensic anthropology standards, utilizing average soft tissue thickness measurements at key landmarks. These measurements are derived from statistical analyses of large datasets that consider factors like ethnicity, age, and Bod

Prior-guided craniofacial soft-tissue reconstruction from CBCT under acquisition uncertainty via identity-quantized shape priors.

Objective.Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) suffers from low soft-tissue contrast and metal artifacts, yielding noisy and incomplete soft-tissue surface observations that limit craniofacial modeling for surgical planning. This study aims to reconstruct identity-preserving facial soft-tissue surfaces from CBCT-derived sparse surface evidence for clinical decision support.Approach.We propose a prior-guided reconstruction framework that introduces identity quantization as ananatomicalshape prior to regularize an inherently underdetermined inference problem.
