Recently, Brazil has experienced a zoonotic emergence of sporotrichosis. The associated cutaneous lesions are often extensive and slow to heal, thereby providing a gateway for opportunistic bacteria belonging to the normal skin microbiota. Among these, Staphylococcus spp. are of particular concern due to their high prevalence and notable levels of antimicrobial resistance. The objective of this study was to identify and characterize Staphylococcus spp. isolated from the cutaneous wounds of domestic cats undergoing treatment for sporotrichosis and exhibiting clinical signs of secondary bacteria

Streptococcus suis is a major zoonotic pathogen, and strains originating from clinically healthy pigs pose an increasingly serious threat to human health. This study investigated 315 S. suis isolates collected from clinically healthy pigs in Guangdong and Guangxi provinces between 2024 and 2025. Among these isolates, 34 capsular polysaccharide (cps) types were identified, with 40.63% belonging to cps types associated with human infections. The isolates exhibited high genetic diversity, distributed across 80 sequence types (STs), 13 clonal complexes (CCs), and five minimum core genomes (MCGs).

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the pathogen spectrum and antimicrobial resistance trends in hospitalized infants in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of our hospital (a major hospital in China) from 2019 to 2024. The evolving pathogen spectrum highlights the need for precise local diagnostic strategies based on surveillance data. The high prevalence of antimicrobial resistance calls for the optimization of empirical antimicrobial therapy and stringent antimicrobial stewardship. Additionally, this study provides evidence-based recommendations for cost-effective antimicrobial re

BACKGROUND: Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are often polymicrobial infections, necessitating antibiotic therapy. However, the high prevalence of antibiotic misuse and the growing issue of antibiotic resistance in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) exacerbate the challenges in managing these ulcers, contributing to the risk of lower-limb amputations.
OBJECTIVES: This systematic review reported the bacterial profile and antibiotic resistance patterns associated with DFUs in LMICs.
DESIGN: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
DATA SOURCES AND METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted

Burn injury is often a devastating event with long-term physical and psychosocial effects. Burn scars after deep dermal injury are cosmetically disfiguring and force the scarred person to deal with an alteration in body appearance. In addition, the traumatic nature of the burn accident and the painful treatment may induce psychopathological responses. Depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which are prevalent in 13-23% and 13-45% of cases, respectively, have been the most common areas of research in burn patients. Risk factors related to depression are pre-burn depression and fe

UNLABELLED: Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) persistently colonizes the nares of approximately 20-30% of healthy individuals, and the nasal carriage constitutes a risk of infection and transmission. This pathogen causes mild to severe infections, different strains show variable virulence, and methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) is a global concern. Due to the worldwide aging of the population, further research in older adults is necessary, such as the study of their microbiota.
AIM: To determine the carriage of S. aureus in older adults in Valparaíso, Chile, and to characterize the phenot

Neisseria meningitidis clonal complex 11 (cc11) is a hyperinvasive lineage associated with global dissemination and outbreaks, including the 'South American/UK' sublineage. In Spain, cc11 serogroup W cases have increased in recent years; however, the evolutionary dynamics of circulating variants remain insufficiently characterized. This study aimed to assess the clonal diversity, temporal evolution and antimicrobial resistance profiles of cc11 isolates recovered in Spain between 2011 and 2025. A total of 1,226 isolates (406 invasive and 820 non-invasive) were collected across 8 Spanish regions

Irreversible electroporation is a promising nonthermal ablation for gastric mucosa, but nonconformal contact between the electrode and the rough surface of the gastric mucosa causes an inhomogeneous distribution of the high-voltage electric field. Here, we enhanced gap filling and substantially reduced distortion of the delivered high-voltage electric field by fabricating a soft, highly conductive sintered silver hydrogel as the bioelectronic tissue interface, thereby achieving uniform and complete irreversible electroporation. The sintering reaction was initiated by Cl- and H+, which can work

OBJECTIVES: Streptococcus suis is an emerging zoonotic porcine pathogen and a leading cause of adult bacterial meningitis in Southeast Asia, associated with raw pork consumption. Most zoonotic S. suis infections globally are caused by strains from lineage CC1 carrying a serotype 2 capsule. However, in Thailand, ∼40% of the reported zoonotic infections are caused by 2 endemic lineages, CC104 and CC233, which also have a serotype 2 capsule. In this study, we aimed to identify the drivers of the emergence and recent evolution of these two lineages.
METHODS: We sequenced the whole genomes of 141

BACKGROUND: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has emerged as a global public health concern, increasing morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. Limited surveillance data exist from regional referral hospitals in Tanzania, including Bukoba Regional Referral Hospital (BRRH). Understanding local AMR patterns is essential to guide empirical therapy and inform infection prevention and control strategies. This study aimed to determine the patterns, trends, and factors associated with AMR among bacterial isolates at BRRH between 2019 and 2023.
METHODOLOGY: A retrospective cross-sectional study was

BACKGROUND: Cutibacterium acnes is a slow-growing anaerobic gram-positive bacillus increasingly recognised as a cause of delayed, indolent post-surgical infections, particularly in the context of implants or bone flaps. Diagnosis is often challenging due to its slow growth and tendency to be dismissed as a contaminant.
CASE PRESENTATION: We describe a case of C. acnes osteitis involving a cranial bone flap in a patient who underwent craniotomy and tumour decompression for a high-grade glioma. The postoperative course was initially uneventful; however, several weeks later the patient developed

BACKGROUND: Intramammary infections are the most common reason for antibiotic use in dairy cattle. A multiplex PCR has become the mainstay in determining the causative mastitis pathogens in Finland. However, this method does not allow the monitoring of antibiotic resistance among mastitis pathogens. The aim of this study was to assess antibiotic susceptibility among common bacterial pathogens isolated from mastitis milk specimens in Finland. Specimens were collected on dairy farms from cows suffering from mastitis and analysed with the PathoProof™ Mastitis Complete-16 PCR assay. Specimens with
