Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli and methicillin-resistant staphylococci originating from dog and cat urine in Japan, 2017-2024: annual proportions and prefecture-level distributions of submitted isolates.

We extracted extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli and methicillin-resistant staphylococci (MRS) from dog and cat urine isolates submitted to a commercial veterinary laboratory in Japan from 2017 to 2024 and described their annual proportions and prefecture-level counts of submitted resistant isolates. The main trends were to significantly decrease the proportions of ESBL-production E. coli in both dogs and cats and MRS in dogs alone. The prefectures (Tokyo, Chiba, Saitama, Kanagawa, Kyoto, Aichi, Fukuoka, and Ibaraki) represented the larger numbers of resistant is

Oxy-Imino-Cephalosporin Induces Expression of Secondary Resistance Genes repB and mtgA in Escherichia coli Harboring blaCTX-M ESBL.

Escherichia coli is considered a major extended-spectrum β-lactamases producer, of which CTX-M is the most common member. However, the different variants of this primary resistance-determinant make it challenging to detect by conventional PCR-based techniques. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the transcriptional response of 2 secondary resistance genes, repB and mtgA, under sub-inhibitory concentrations of oxy-imino cephalosporins in resistant isolates of E. coli harboring blaCTX-M. The STRING database and Cytoscape software were used to identify the secondary resistance genes by gene
