PURPOSE: To evaluate the outcomes of eyelid reconstruction in patients who underwent full thickness skin grafts.
METHODS: A retrospective, noncomparative intervention study of patients who underwent periocular reconstruction with full thickness skin grafts between 2005 and 2011.
RESULTS: One hundred consecutive Caucasian patients were included in the study, 54 women and 46 men. Mean follow up was 32 months. Support of the lower eyelid with canthal suspension is a useful tool in the prevention of complications of lower blepharoplasty with particular relevance to eyelids with increased lower lid laxity, relatively prominent globes, and negative vector configuration of the eyelid-cheek junction. BACKGROUND: In recent years, many mini-incisional techniques for double-eyelid plasty have been developed. However, the removal of pretarsal tissue has not been satisfactory because only small pockets of soft tissue just inferior to the skin have been removed to place the suture. Reconstruction of the medial canthus following skin cancer excision is often challenging because of the complex anatomy and the cosmetic relevance of that region. The island pedicle advancement flap is an extremely versatile flap, which is commonly used to close defects in different body areas, including face, trunk, and extremities. We report our favourable experience with the use of island flaps, mobilized from the nasal saddle or lateral nasal side wall in 8 patients who had skin defects on the medial canthus region after Mohs micrographic surgery for basal cell carcinomas.

Second intention healing (SIH) is useful for many defects after skin cancer removal. SIH decreases intraoperative morbidity and reduces procedure costs. Granulating wounds are rarely infected, have minimal pain or bleeding, and care is simple. Location is the key determinant in cosmetic outcomes of SIH. BACKGROUND: Ethnic characteristics of the Asian upper eyelid include the lack of a superior palpebral fold, excessive fat, laxity of pretarsal skin, and a medial epicanthal fold. We present the lazy S-curve epicanthoplasty for correction of the medial epicanthal fold.
METHODS: The lazy S-curve incision was made as an entrance step. Then the connective and orbicularis oculi muscle dense fibers underlying the epicanthal folds were released and shifted. To reduce the tension of the new medial canthus, we anchored the canthus by suture fixation of both the subdermal and medial orbital periosteum.
