Type VI collagen was immunolocalized in several soft connective tissues at the light and electron microscopic level. Positive labeling was found in all tissues examined, periodontal ligament, gingiva, mesenterium and periosteum. Aggressive angiomyxomas are rare soft tissue tumors found mainly in the female reproductive mesenchyme and pelvis. They are low-grade sarcomas that have a propensity to recur locally. Desmoplastic small round cell tumor (DSRCT) typically occurs in the abdomen but may also present at other sites. We report six cases of paratesticular DSRCT. We describe a procedure for "chain-link" combined tissue transfer connecting the vascular pedicle of a deep circumflex iliac flap with that of a forearm flap after wide resection of the mandible. Combination of these flaps facilitated the reconstruction of the defect in both intra- and extraoral soft tissue and the mandibular bone. This method is useful when cervical recipient blood vessels are limited due to the wide resection of the primary tumor and radical neck dissection.

Inflammatory pseudotumour is an uncommon benign lesion that presents in children and young adults. The rarity of these lesions, particularly at extrapulmonary sites, has resulted in poor documentation of its radiological manifestations. The casenotes, radiology and histology of five patients with inflammatory pseudotumour were reviewed. Two lesions were intra-abdominal, one oesophageal, one intrapulmonary and one lower limb. CT demonstrated inflammatory pseudotumours as well circumscribed masses of soft tissue density producing displacement of surrounding structures rather than local invasion.

We report the case of a young female who, from infancy, suffered extensive, progressive, heterotopic ossification of her left lower limb. Heterotopic ossification, which was largely but not exclusively intramembranous in type, was most marked in subcutaneous fat but was also noted in muscle and deep connective tissue. The spectrum of changes noted suggests that this congenital disorder of soft tissues is similar to that recently described as progressive osseous heteroplasia.

After sacrectomy, mobilization of the patient is only possible if a stable connection between the spine and pelvis can be obtained. We have developed an instrumentation to fix the pelvis to the spine. Two DHS screws connected to each other were implanted in the pelvis (one DHS screw into each ilium). An internal spine fixator, anchored in L3 and L4 through transpedicular Schanz screws, was attached to these DHS screws. Two patients were stabilized with this implant after sacrectomy. One patient was able to walk with crutches; the other patient was able to walk even without crutches.

As part of the UCLA limb salvage program, 151 patients received 151 endoprostheses for primary tumors involving bone.
