Penile Fibroadenoma Arising From Anogenital Mammary-Like Glands in a Transgender Woman.

Anogenital mammary-like glands (AGMLG) are specialized glands of the anogenital region capable of giving rise to lesions analogous to those of the breast. Fibroadenomas arising from AGMLG are well documented in the vulva but are exceedingly rare in male genital anatomy. We report a penile fibroadenoma arising from AGMLG in a 29-year-old transgender woman with a progressively enlarging mass while receiving feminizing hormone therapy. Histologic examination demonstrated a well-circumscribed fibroepithelial lesion with intracanalicular architecture, ductal structures with a bilayered epithelium,

Locally advanced breast cancer in an elderly male with end-stage renal disease: A case report.

Male breast cancer (MBC) is uncommon, often diagnosed late and prone to distant metastases. Treating MBC is more challenging than treating female breast cancer. The present study reports a case of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in a Chinese patient with locally advanced MBC. What distinguishes the present case from previously reported MBCs is the advanced age (90 years), the presence of ESRD with multiple complications and the locally advanced (T4b) ulcerated tumor, a triad rarely documented in the literature. A 90-year-old man presented to the hospital with an itchy, bleeding, ulcerated breas

Zero-Shot Domain Adaptation of 2D Mammography Lesion Detection Model for 3D Breast CT Malignancy Detection.

Purpose: Breast cancer screening relies primarily on two-dimensional (2D) digital mammography, which is limited by tissue superposition and compression-related patient discomfort. Dedicated spiral breast computed tomography (BCT) overcomes these limitations by providing isotropic, fully three-dimensional (3D) volumetric images without compression. However, translating artificial intelligence (AI) advancements to 3D BCT lesion detection is hindered by the scarcity of large-scale annotated 3D datasets and substantial computational constraints. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibi

Oncology research in the kingdom of Bahrain: a four-decade bibliometric evolution.

INTRODUCTION: Bahrain reports the highest age-standardized cancer incidence among Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, but its oncology research output has not been comprehensively mapped. We profiled four decades of Bahrain-linked cancer publications to describe growth, contributors, collaboration, impact, and gaps. METHODS: We searched Scopus and PubMed from inception to December 2024 using cancer-related terms combined with "Bahrain". We included articles, reviews, editorials, letters, conference papers, and book chapters. After deduplication, screening, and manual supplementation, 50

Appearance-aware robustness probes for strict external breast ultrasound segmentation under multi-source joint training.

Breast ultrasound segmentation is sensitive to external-domain shift caused by scanner, acquisition, annotation and appearance variation. Shadowing, gain and contrast variation are particularly relevant given that ultrasound is not an optical imaging modality, yet many segmentation reports still rely mainly on randomly split or source-overlapping validation. We reformulated the study as a strict external validation analysis. Six model configurations-U-Net, CMU-Net, RTCMUNet, PMix, CGate and PMix+CGate-were evaluated under three source-composition protocols: all-source joint training, leave-BUS

Multiplex Real Time PCR Assay Targeting the eqbE for Rapid Detection and Differentiation of Streptococcus equi from Other Streptococcus Species in Indian Equines.

INTRODUCTION: The 'Commission on the Future of Health Care in Canada' recognized that people living in rural and remote areas of Canada are at a disadvantage in health status, access to care and health professionals, and it considers the fight against these problems as a national priority. Although some attention has been paid to the prevalence of chronic diseases, very few studies have studied specifically the management and health issues in populations with chronic diseases in relation to rurality. The objective of this study was to describe systematic gaps across rural and urban populations

Baseline gene expression and dynamic endocrine therapy use in ER+ breast cancer: associations with recurrence in a real-world cohort.

Endocrine therapy (ET) selection in estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer (ER + BC) is guided by menopausal status and tolerability rather than tumor biology, despite substantial heterogeneity in recurrence. We hypothesized that baseline gene expression differentially associates with recurrence depending on initial ET class. In a retrospective cohort of 74 ER+/HER2- patients treated with adjuvant ET, we profiled baseline tumor RNA and fitted adjusted Cox models for gene and ET interactions on time-to-recurrence and time-to-switch. Among selective estrogen receptor modulators-initiated patie

Breast cancer treatment in patients with tuberculosis: Challenges and therapeutic considerations.

Breast cancer (BC) and tuberculosis (TB) remain two major global health problems, representing the leading causes of cancer- and infection-related deaths worldwide. BC and TB have distinct global distributions but may coexist in individuals, particularly in settings where persistent TB burden coincides with increasing demand for BC diagnosis and treatment. The co-occurrence of BC and TB poses diagnostic and therapeutic challenges for multidisciplinary specialists, including drug-drug interactions (DDIs) and potentially overlapping toxicities. Misdiagnosis of concomitant TB with BC can result f

Enhanced recurrence risk stratification for stages Ⅱ-Ⅲ breast cancer using MRI-based structure habitat imaging.

PURPOSE: To identify robust tumor habitat subregions using pre-treatment MRI and assess the prognostic value of the resulting phenotypes for recurrence risk stratification in stages II-III breast cancer. METHODS: This multicenter retrospective study included 842 women with stages II-III breast cancer who received pre-treatment MRI scans and subsequent surgical resection from three centers (multicenter discovery cohort: n = 415; external test cohort: n = 427). An unsupervised clustering-based habitat characterization framework was applied to delineate tumor subregions and identify distinct str

Diagnostic dilemma of silicone-induced ipsilateral internal mammary lymphadenopathy mimicking breast cancer recurrence after mastectomy: a case report.

BACKGROUND: We present a patient with a history of mastectomy and breast reconstruction for breast cancer who was found to have ipsilateral internal mammary lymphadenopathy on diagnostic imaging performed for a benign contralateral breast abnormality. As newly identified lymphadenopathy in breast cancer patients may indicate metastasis requiring treatment, a comprehensive workup confirmed silicone-induced lymphadenitis, a rare inflammatory condition that closely mimics malignancy. The pathognomonic imaging findings are crucial for diagnosing silicone lymphadenitis. While relatively straightfor

Retiform hemangioendothelioma of the breast: a case report and considerations for effective management.

Retiform hemangioendothelioma (RHE) is a rare vascular neoplasm of intermediate malignancy, with a high frequency of local recurrence and negligible metastasizing potential. We describe a 45-year-old female who presented with a firm subcutaneous nodule in the lower-outer quadrant of the right breast. Diagnosis of RHE was confirmed based on the characteristic retiform pattern of the branching neoplastic vascular channels, as well as positivity for CD31 and negativity for D2-40 markers. The patient was successfully treated with wide local excision of the tumor with clear surgical margins. The re

Primary Multifocal Neuroendocrine Tumor of the Breast: A Diagnostic Dilemma.

Primary neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) of the breast are extremely rare and diagnostically challenging tumors. We are reporting a female patient in her 40s with progressively enlarging, painless lumps measuring 30 mm and 15 mm in the upper and lower inner quadrants of the right breast for three months. Mammography reported it as the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BIRADS) IVC lesion. A fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) done on the right breast lump and right axillary lymph node was reported as carcinoma with metastasis. Subsequent biopsy and immunohistochemistry (IHC) were repo

A Quadrant-based Algorithm for Oncoplastic Breast Reduction: The Use of Mirror Flaps for Filling Superior Pole Lumpectomy Defects.

BACKGROUND: Reconstructing upper-quadrant defects in oncoplastic breast reduction (OBR) can be challenging due to upper-pole concavity after tumor resection. To address this, we adopted a dual-component technique using 2 separate flaps: (1) a superiorly based flap for the nipple-areola complex (NAC) and (2) an inferior advancement flap from the quadrant ipsilateral to the lumpectomy defect, "mirroring" the laterality of the defect. This study evaluates outcomes using this algorithm for superior pole reconstruction in OBR. METHODS: A retrospective review was conducted of OBR cases performed by

The anterior intercostal artery perforator flap in immediate oncoplastic breast reconstruction: current applications and future perspectives.

In recent years, the anterior intercostal artery perforator (AICAP) flap has gained increasing attention for its minimal donor-site morbidity, natural contour, and excellent scar concealment. This review begins by outlining the vascular anatomy of the anterior intercostal perforators, including their distribution, perfusion characteristics, and key considerations for preoperative imaging. We then summarize the indications and limitations of other commonly used chest wall perforator flaps, such as the lateral intercostal artery perforator (LICAP) and thoracodorsal artery perforator (TDAP) flaps

Case Report: A primary breast collision tumor composed of myeloid sarcoma and invasive ductal carcinoma.

Collision tumors, characterized by the coexistence of distinct malignant neoplasms within the same anatomical site, are rare in the breast. We present a case of a 53-year-old woman with an incidentally discovered palpable mass in the upper inner quadrant of the left breast. Preoperative hematological evaluation was unremarkable. Comprehensive imaging evaluation, including ultrasound, mammography, MRI, and PET-CT, was suggestive of malignancy. A preoperative core needle biopsy was performed but yielded limited material, with pathology suggestive of possible invasive ductal carcinoma, necessitat

A Rare Case of Adenomyoepithelioma of the Breast Complicated with Cyst Diagnosed by Preoperative Core Needle Biopsy: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Adenomyoepithelioma (AME) of the breast is a rare benign disease in which glandular epithelial cells and myoepithelial cells proliferate to form a mass. Preoperative diagnosis is considered difficult, and diagnosis by core needle biopsy (CNB) is particularly difficult. Due to its heterogeneous features and growth patterns of the tumor cells constructing the tumor mass, this tumor, although benign in nature, is misdiagnosed as ordinary breast cancer and often treated by surgery for breast cancer. Here, a rare case of AME of the breast complicated with cysts diagnosed by preoperati

Pinch and quadrants: a mechanical hypothesis for the site-specific incidence of breast cancer.

Breast cancer exhibits a well-documented but incompletely explained predilection for the upper outer quadrant (UOQ), accounting for 45-50% of all cases, followed by the lower inner quadrant (LIQ) as the second most common site. We propose a mechanical hypothesis: chronic, repetitive mechanical stress from sexual partner-initiated breast manipulation - specifically the four-finger pinch grasp - creates sustained micro-injury and subsequent reparative proliferation preferentially targeting the UOQ, thereby increasing local mutational burden. The thumb opposes on the LIQ, offering a natural expla

Unmasking the Myositis: A Diagnostic Clue to Occult Breast Cancer.

Dermatomyositis (DM) is an idiopathic inflammatory myopathy characterised by proximal muscle weakness and pathognomonic cutaneous features. A well-recognised but underappreciated association exists between DM and underlying malignancy, termed cancer-associated myositis (CAM). The prevalence of malignancy in DM patients is high, with breast, ovarian, lung, and gastrointestinal cancers most commonly implicated. However, the detection of occult malignancy in young women presenting with DM remains particularly challenging due to atypical epidemiology and the limitations of standard imaging in dens

Long-Standing Breast Mass in an Elderly Male: A Rare Case of Invasive Papillary Carcinoma.

Male breast cancer (MBC) is an uncommon malignancy, accounting for <1% of all breast cancers and often presenting as a diagnostic challenge due to a lack of awareness and absence of screening in males. Invasive papillary carcinoma (IPC) is a rare subtype of MBC, constituting <3% of cases, typically showing strong hormone receptor positivity and better prognosis than other invasive subtypes. A 65-year-old male presented with a left breast lump for 15 years, with intermittent nonprogressive pain for 2 years. Clinical examination revealed a single, nonmobile, nontender mass measuring 2 cm × 1 cm

Primary Neuroendocrine Tumors of the Breast: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Primary neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) of the breast are a very rare type of tumor, originating from cells that make up the neuroendocrine system and produce peptides and amines. This type of tumor represents a very rare subtype of breast carcinoma, occurring mainly in postmenopausal women. Breast NETs are graded as well-differentiated G1, moderately differentiated G2, and poorly differentiated G3 (small or large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma), according to the Nottingham system. Neuroendocrine carcinomas usually affect the gastrointestinal and the pulmonary system. We present a rare case of an
