Spermatocytic Tumor Arising in a Cryptorchid Testis: A Case Report and Narrative Review.

Background: Spermatocytic tumor (ST) is a rare non-GCNIS-derived testicular germ cell neoplasm that predominantly affects older men and generally follows an indolent course. Its occurrence in a cryptorchid testis is exceptionally uncommon. Methods: A narrative literature review was conducted using the PubMed database, including studies published up to August 2026. The search used combinations of the terms "spermatocytic tumor", "spermatocytic seminoma", "cryptorchidism", "undescended testis", "immunohistochemistry", "molecular features", "magnetic resonance imaging", and "treatment". Parental age, consanguinity, parity, and mode of delivery among children undergoing orchidopexy for cryptorchidism: a retrospective cohort study from Northern Jordan.

AIMS: Cryptorchidism is a common congenital male genitourinary anomaly with multifactorial etiology. Data on parental age, consanguinity, parity, and delivery mode among affected children in Middle Eastern populations remain limited. This study evaluated the distribution of these factors among children undergoing orchidopexy in Northern Jordan. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted at Princess Rahma Teaching Hospital, Northern Jordan, including males aged 1-11 years who underwent orchidopexy for cryptorchidism between January 2016 and July 2024. Data were obtained from med

Prevalence and risk factors of acquired undescended testis in boys with cerebral palsy: A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Boys with cerebral palsy (CP) are at increased risk for acquired undescended testis (aUDT), yet the prevalence, associated risk factors, and clinical consequences of UDT in this population remain incompletely defined. Delayed recognition may predispose affected patients to testicular atrophy and long-term reproductive complications. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 240 boys aged 1-15 years with a confirmed diagnosis of CP who underwent standardized genital examination at a tertiary care center. aUDT was defined as a testis previously documented as scrotal but subsequen

USP35-mediated NRF2 deubiquitination attenuates experimental cryptorchidism-induced testicular damage and H2O2-induced apoptosis and oxidative stress in spermatogonia.

Cryptorchidism, characterized by the failure of one or both testes to descend into the scrotum, is the most prevalent urogenital malformation in male infants and an important risk element of male infertility and testicular cancer. The purpose of this study was to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying cryptorchidism-induced testicular damage, with a focus on the role of USP35. Here we established a unilateral experimental cryptorchidism model of Sprague-Dawley rats by resetting the left testis to the abdominal cavity and suturing the inguinal canal, thus preventing its natural descent

Habitat-shifting predatory and herbivorous reef fishes exhibit spatial partitioning despite shared biophysical drivers of seascape use.

CONTEXT: Climate change and anthropogenic stressors are degrading coastal biogenic habitats, disrupting the vital pathways fish use to shift from nearshore nurseries to offshore reef environments. Although fishes are critical for ecosystem health, spatial management rarely accounts for the interconnectedness of fish habitat needs across their life cycle. OBJECTIVES: To examine and compare drivers of habitat use for subadult size classes of five habitat-shifting fishes from two feeding guilds: mesopredators and herbivores. To assess the multi-species suitability of existing management zones.

Obesity and cryptorchidism across development: an integrated endocrine and metabolic life course framework.

BACKGROUND: Childhood obesity is a major endocrine and metabolic disorder that extends beyond cardiometabolic risk and may affect male reproductive development. Cryptorchidism (undescended testis, UDT) is a common congenital anomaly associated with hypogonadism, subfertility, and testicular cancer. However, endocrine and metabolic links between obesity and impaired testicular descent remain incompletely integrated. OBJECTIVE: This mini review synthesizes current evidence into an integrated life-course framework explaining how obesogenic exposures, including maternal metabolic disease, postnat

Somatic cell dysfunction precedes testicular degeneration in a surgical model of cryptorchidism.

PURPOSE: Cryptorchidism is the most common congenital anomaly requiring pediatric surgical correction. Although surgical repositioning of the undescended testis (orchidopexy) is effective anatomically, the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying ongoing testicular damage after surgery remain poorly understood. METHODS: We established a surgically induced unilateral cryptorchidism model in adult mice, collected testicular tissues at day 0, 3, 7, 10, and 14 after induction, and performed bulk RNA sequencing on samples collected at day 0, 3, and 7. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were

DNA injection through coleoptile; a choice to overcome species barrier and bring about rapid expansion of gene pool in rice.

INTRODUCTION: Femoral neck fractures are among the most common injuries in the elderly, and total hip arthroplasty is increasingly preferred due to superior functional outcomes and lower reoperation rates; however, instability and dislocation remain major concerns with conventional fixed-bearing total hip arthroplasty. Dual mobility total hip arthroplasty has been introduced to reduce these complications. METHODS: This retrospective analytical study included 335 patients aged over 55 years with AO/OTA type 31B or 31C femoral neck fractures who underwent total hip arthroplasty between January

Harnessing Artificial Intelligence to Restore Standards in Medical and Dental Education in Pakistan.

The month of March is dedicated to Colon Cancer Awareness. Worldwide, colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence has been on the rise. It is currently the third most common cancer in men (746,000 cases, 10.0% of the total) and the second in women (614,000 cases, 9.2% of the total).1 Arecent meta-analysis reported a 61% risk reduction in CRC incidence with colonoscopy.2 Unlike screening programs for breast and prostate cancers, not only has CRC screening reduced mortality from colon cancer and detected early CRC, it has also decreased the incidence of CRC through detection and removal of pre-cancerous l

PITUITARY STALK INTERRUPTION SYNDROME CAUSED BY NOVEL COMPOUND HETEROZYGOUS MUTATIONS IN THE KATNIP GENE.

Pituitary stalk interruption syndrome (PSIS) is characterized by the coexistence of an absent or thin pituitary stalk, an ectopic posterior pituitary (EPP) lobe, and an absent or hypoplastic anterior pituitary lobe. A 1-year-old boy presented with micropenis, and undescended testis associated with growth hormone, thyroid stimulating hormone, and gonadotropin deficiencies. Pituitary hypoplasia, EPP, and a missing pituitary stalk were seen on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Whole-exome sequencing (WES) revealed compound heterozygous variants in the KATNIP gene (NM_0.15202.5: c1461G>A / c.4035d

Addressing inequities in cryptorchidism care: The impact of social determinants on timely & true undescended testis referrals - A six-year study from a high-volume referral center.

INTRODUCTION: The American Urological Association (AUA) recommends urology referral and surgery for undescended testicle (UDT) before 18 months of age, but it has been shown that many referrals occur later, influenced by social factors. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to identify key social factors that impact UDT referral timing and appropriateness. STUDY DESIGN: Pediatric patients referred to our institution for UDT management from 2018 to 2023 were analyzed. Referral appropriateness was assessed by whether the child had a true UDT, defined as undergoing orchiopexy. Timeliness was defined as re

Staged orchiopexy in low intra-abdominal undescended testis with short spermatic cord: Open traction vs. Laparoscopic Fowler-Stephens - A matter of surgeon preference.

INTRODUCTION: Among techniques for short spermatic vessels in nonpalpable undescended testis (UDT), the Fowler-Stephens (F-S) procedure is the most favored. However, traction methods have regained popularity with gradual testicular tension for elongation to avoid ligating the spermatic vessels. OBJECTIVE: To compare two techniques for low intra-abdominal UDT with a short spermatic cord: staged laparoscopic F-S and a modified staged open traction technique, and to determine if long-practicing surgeons should change their preferred method.
