Research Note on the Role of Infertility and Medically Assisted Reproduction on the Realization of Ideal Family Size in Japan.

Anthrax is caused by Bacillus anthracis. Humans are mainly infected through contact with the fur and meat of livestock. The cutaneous form is the most common form. The skin lesions of typical cutaneous anthrax are characterized by shallow ulcers with black crusts, surrounded by small blisters and nonpitting edema of nearby tissues. Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) is a new pathogenic detection method which is rapid and unbiased. We reported the first case of cutaneous anthrax diagnosed by mNGS. Ultimately, the man received prompt antibiotic therapy and had a good prognosis. In con

[Orf Infection Localized in the Earlobe: The First Case Report in the Literature].

Orf is a zoonotic infection caused by the parapoxvirus belonging to the Poxviridae family. It is usually transmitted to humans from sheep and goats. Human-to-human transmission is quite rare. Shepherds, veterinarians, slaughterhouse workers and people living in rural areas who are in close contact with farm animals constitute the main risk group. It most commonly presents as pustular dermatitis on the hands, usually painless but sometimes associated with tenderness and pain in the early clinical stages. Auricular localization is quite rare, with a few cases involving the ear reported in the li

Risk factors for anthrax in livestock: findings from one health outbreak investigations in Bangladesh.

BACKGROUND: Anthrax remains endemic in Bangladesh, causing recurring outbreaks in livestock and humans despite vaccination programs. Although environmental persistence of Bacillus anthracis is recognized, evidence on modifiable animal- and farm-level practices that contribute to livestock anthrax is limited. This study aimed to identify animal-level and farm-level risk factors associated with anthrax in livestock in endemic areas of Bangladesh, addressing gaps in understanding how husbandry practices and farm management contribute to disease transmission. METHODS: Geographically matched animal

Pathogenic characterization and genome-wide evolutionary analysis of Bacillus anthracis from a cutaneous anthrax case in Inner Mongolia, China.

BACKGROUND: Anthrax remains an important zoonosis in pastoral areas of China, yet genomic evidence directly linking human cases, contaminated animal products, and environmental sources is still limited for Hinggan League in Inner Mongolia. We investigated a cutaneous anthrax event reported in 2023 and characterized the associated Bacillus anthracis isolates using epidemiological and genome-based approaches. METHODS: A field investigation was initiated after a suspected case was reported on 2 November 2023. Eighteen samples were collected from the patient, residual products from the slaughtere

Lactoferrin concentration in breast milk during the first postpartum year in Lima Norte, Peru.

Bile duct injuries (BDI) tend to be more complex in laparoscopic than in open cholecystectomy procedures, and frequently involve young adults with benign pathologies. The ultimate consequence may be a liver transplantation (LT), making this situation one of the most rare transplant indications. Fatal post-transplant outcome is extreme infrequently reported. Aim of this study is to report on our single-case experience and to review the literature concerning lethal outcome after LT for major BDI following cholecystectomy. A 36-year old obese caucasian woman underwent a laparoscopic cholecystecto

Comparative study of gut microbiota on fat deposition in European meat pigeons and Yuzhong pigeons.

The rate of fat deposition is a critical indicator for assessing the quality of roast squab. Fat deposition in meat pigeons is closely related to their intestinal flora. However, few studies have examined the relationship between gut microbiota structure and fat synthesis in pigeons. This study focused on 28-day-old roast squabs of European meat pigeons and Yuzhong pigeons, which exhibit significant differences in fat synthesis and weight. We analyzed the molecular mechanisms by which the intestinal microbiota of different meat pigeons influences fat deposition. Additionally, we evaluated the

Cutaneous anthrax rapidly progressed into septic anthrax resulting in death - A case report.

Anthrax is a fatal zoonotic disease and the acute risk associated with it cannot be underestimated. Cutaneous anthrax accounts for more than 95 % of anthrax and usually does not lead to death. We present a case of severe cutaneous anthrax treated with a three-day course of combination antibiotics therapy, which culminated into death due to multiple organ failure. The patient did not exhibit symptoms suspected of meningitis anthrax and pulmonary anthrax. Computed Tomography revealed subcutaneous exudates in the chest, back, left supraclavicular fossa, and bilateral axillary regions. Some newly

A Case of Severe Cutaneous Anthrax: Malignant Edema Leading to Laryngeal Involvement.

Bacillus anthracis, the causative agent of anthrax, primarily affects herbivorous animals but can also infect humans. This disease is prevalent in livestock, particularly in rural regions. Cutaneous anthrax, the most common form, is usually benign; however, it can cause significant edema, particularly on the face, which may spread to the neck and chest. This swelling may compress the trachea, leading to respiratory distress. This report presented a severe and rare case of cutaneous anthrax in which facial edema extended, resulting in laryngeal edema.

The antibacterial properties of Ampelocissus latifolia root extract against Bacillus anthracis.

BACKGROUND: Bacillus anthracis a spore-forming Gram-positive bacterium, is the causative agent of anthrax in both animals and humans. The potential emergence of antibiotic-resistant strains of B. anthracis further poses a significant concern. The present study aims to evaluate the antibacterial activity of the methanolic root extract (MRE) of Ampelocissus latifolia against B. anthracis. METHODS: The anti-B. anthracis activity of the MRE was evaluated using the agar well diffusion assay (AWDA), while the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was determined by the broth dilution method. A Rare Periorbital Ulceronecrotic Wound: A Case of Anthrax Cellulitis.

Cutaneous anthrax is a zoonotic bacterial infection that mostly involves the head, neck, and upper extremities. Periorbital involvement of cutaneous anthrax is a rare presentation that can lead to severe irreversible complications. Herein, we describe a 2.5-year-old girl with periorbital anthrax cellulitis. She presented with a severe swelling on the right side of her face and an ulceronecrotic lesion above the right eyebrow. After receiving an appropriate antibiotic regimen, her condition improved and she was discharged without any intraocular complications.

Knowledge, attitude and practices of primary livestock raisers regarding anthrax and anthrax vaccination of livestock in outbreak and non-outbreak areas of Bangladesh.

Anthrax is a zoonotic disease caused by the spore-forming bacterium Bacillus anthracis. Outbreaks are periodically reported among people and livestock in Bangladesh. From 2009-2020, approximately 4000 suspected human cutaneous anthrax cases were reported. Although annual livestock vaccination against anthrax is one of the primary control methods, we do not know the livestock vaccination practices in Bangladesh. We aimed to determine the knowledge, attitude, and practices of livestock raisers regarding the use of anthrax vaccination. We conducted a cross-sectional survey in four districts with
