Optimizing polymorphic tomato picking detection: improved YOLOv8n architecture to tackle data under complex environments.

INTRODUCTION: In modern agriculture, tomatoes, as key economic crops, face challenges during harvesting due to complex growth environments; traditional object detection technologies are limited by performance and struggle to accurately identify and locate ripe and small-target tomatoes under leaf occlusion and uneven illumination. METHODS: To address these issues, this study sets YOLOv8n as the baseline model, focusing on improving it to enhance performance per tomato detection's core needs. First, it analyzes YOLOv8n's inherent bottlenecks in feature extraction and small-target recognition,

Feasibility of transitioning to marker-less immobilisation using optical surface guidance in head and neck cancer treatment: a study at territory state cancer centre in a developing country.

PURPOSE/OBJECTIVES: In countries such as India, where a large share of cancer patients undergoes head and neck radiotherapy, setups still rely primarily on laser alignment with surface markers on the mask. This study explores transitioning from conventional marker-based setup to markerless setups using optical surface guidance (SGRT) to determine if treatment accuracy can be maintained particularly in a territory state cancer centre setting where resources are limited. MATERIALS/METHODS: A prospective study of 80 head-and-neck cancer patients, randomized into two groups was performed: open-fa

Understanding the risk of metastasis in lower lip carcinoma: clinical insights and prognostic implications.

BACKGROUNDS: Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma accounts for the second most skin tumor and is mostly found in the head and neck area. Lymph nodal spreading appears in around 5% of all patients and worsens the prognosis as well as overall survival. Especially the tumor localisation in the lower lip is known for a higher risk of lymph nodal metastases. METHODS: Data of 71 patients suffering from cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) of the lower lip were analyzed retrospectively. Risk factors such as tumor size and depth of invasion and other histopathological findings were collected. Logisti

Thyroidectomy Outcomes in Older Adults: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

IMPORTANCE: A greater proportion of older patients (age ≥65 years) are undergoing thyroidectomy amidst an aging population. Given the elusive results in the literature, clarifying whether older patients face different thyroidectomy safety profiles is crucial for optimizing risk assessment and patient counseling. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the association between older age (age ≥65 years) and thyroidectomy safety by comparing endocrine-related complications, including recurrent laryngeal nerve injury, hypocalcemia, hematoma, and mortality in older compared with younger patients. DATA SOURCES: Ovi

A Case of Juvenile Xanthogranuloma of the Hand in an Adolescent.

Most soft tissue hand tumors are benign, but excision may be performed to confirm diagnosis, relieve pain, or improve function. This report describes a 16-year-old male patient with a growing, intermittently painful dorsal hand mass that was excised for diagnostic purposes and possible pain relief, which was subsequently identified as a juvenile xanthogranuloma. As a result of these pathological findings, our patient underwent specialist evaluation, and no further lesions or systemic involvement were identified. He was followed up postoperatively for 3 months without complications. Juvenile xa

Screening and prevention of second primary cancers by hospital-based oncology professionals.

Cancer survivors face an increased risk of second primaries, but adherence to cancer screening and prevention recommendations remains limited. Post-treatment follow-up visits represent teachable moments for health promotion, including prevention of second primary cancers. We assessed practices and perceptions of second cancer screening and prevention among French hospital-based oncology health care professionals. An anonymous online survey using Likert scale was conducted. Clustering identified three prevention activity profiles (low, intermediate, high), and multinomial logistic regression ex
