The selection of surgical approaches for benign and low-grade malignant tumors of the pancreatic head and neck, such as serous cystadenomas, neuroendocrine tumors, and intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs), has long been controversial. Traditional pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) is associated with substantial trauma and requires gastrointestinal reconstruction, which alters normal physiological structures. With a deeper understanding of pancreatic function and the advancement of minimally invasive techniques, duodenum-preserving pancreatic head resection (DPPHR) has gained increasing a

BACKGROUND: The incidence of gastro-entero-pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP-NENs) has increased, alongside novel therapies and care models. Whether these advances translated into improved survival is unclear.
METHODS: Population-based retrospective cohort study of GEP-NENs between 2000-2019. Overall survival (OS) was analyzed using time-to-event methods. Restricted cubic splines assessed non-linear associations between diagnosis year and hazards of death; multivariable Cox regression adjusted for age, sex, primary site, and metastatic status.
RESULTS: Among 9,420 patients, 5-year OS

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: Neuroendocrine neoplasms are a heterogeneous group of tumors, primarily located in the gastroenteropancreatic system. In Mexico, clinical and epidemiologic data on them are limited. Our aim was to describe the experience with gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms at a tertiary care medical center and analyze the factors associated with survival.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective analytic cohort study was conducted.
RESULTS: The study included 110 patients with a mean age of 58 years (SD ± 13.8), 55.5% of whom were women. The pancreas was the most common

BACKGROUND: This study evaluates the efficacy of pancreatic stump binding and ligation (PSBL) in reducing postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) after distal pancreatectomy (DP).
METHODS: A retrospective cohort analysis included 217 patients undergoing DP between 2015 and 2022. Patients were classified into two groups: those receiving PSBL (B-Group, n = 96) and those without (NB-Group, n = 121). The primary outcome was incidence of clinically relevant POPF (Grade B/C).
RESULTS: The B-Group demonstrated lower POPF rates (11.5% vs. 28.9%, P = 0.003) compared to the NB-Group, with grade B fist

Anaplastic carcinoma of the pancreas (ACP) is a rare and aggressive malignancy. We report a case of spindle cell-type ACP arising from intraductal papillary mucinous carcinoma (IPMC) showing rapid intra-cystic growth. A 73 year-old man was incidentally found to have a pancreatic cyst, initially diagnosed as a simple cyst. After 18 months, a solid component appeared within the cyst and rapidly enlarged within one month. Distal pancreatectomy was performed. Histopathology revealed spindle cell-type anaplastic carcinoma arising from invasive IPMC. Despite aggressive histology, curative resection

The pancreas is an uncommon site for metastatic spread, making such cases diagnostically and therapeutically challenging. We report a case of endoscopic ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation of pancreatic metastasis from renal cell carcinoma. Follow-up imaging revealed a long-term durable outcome, with a recurrent lesion 3 years after the first session, which was successfully retreated with the same modality. This case underscores the role of minimally invasive endoscopic therapies, combined with targeted therapy, as a multimodal approach for patients not suitable for surgery.

BACKGROUND: Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm (SPN) and pancreatic acinar cell carcinoma (PACC) represent two uncommon pancreatic tumors with distinct biological behaviors and management strategies. Both entities can present with overlapping appearances on contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT), posing a diagnostic challenge preoperatively. Therefore, reliable imaging differentiation between these tumors is clinically important. This study aimed to evaluate computed tomography (CT) imaging features for differentiating SPN from PACC and to develop a combined model to improve preoperative dia

BACKGROUND: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has been linked with increased cancer incidence and mortality. We hypothesized that OSA may be a risk factor for neoplastic progression among patients undergoing pancreatic cancer surveillance.
METHODS: Retrospective medical record review of two Johns Hopkins Hospital cohorts undergoing pancreas surveillance; patients with familial/genetic risk enrolled in the Cancer of the Pancreas Screening (CAPS) study and patients with incidentally detected pancreatic cysts, enrolled in the PCYST study. Time-to-progression to pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC

Wearable glucose sensors enable continuous monitoring of glycemic dynamics, yet their clinical utility is constrained by signal instability, physiological delay, and limited predictive capability. Artificial intelligence (AI) has been increasingly integrated to address these limitations. This review summarizes recent advances in AI-enhanced wearable glucose sensors, with a focus on the evolution of sensing technologies and the role of AI across three main aspects: calibration, glucose prediction, and wearable closed-loop control. In calibration, AI-based approaches for improving short-term sig

In mouse models of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, surgical removal of orthotopic tumors typically involves removing the primary tumor along with the spleen. Here, we present a protocol for surgical removal of the tumor in the tail of the pancreas while preserving the spleen. We describe steps for implantation of mouse pancreatic cancer cells followed by the identification and removal of the orthotopic tumor. We also outline perioperative treatment strategies for tumor recurrence.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Heterotopic pancreas is an uncommon developmental anomaly characterized by pancreatic tissue located outside the normal pancreas without anatomical or vascular continuity. Although it is most frequently identified in the stomach and duodenum, involvement of the ileum is rare, particularly in children. When present in the small intestine, it may act as a pathological lead point for intussusception, posing a considerable diagnostic challenge because the underlying lesion is often not identified by preoperative imaging.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: We report the case of a 6

Alcohol misuse damages numerous organs, including the liver, heart, brain, and pancreas. The kidney remains a severely understudied target of alcohol-induced injury despite renal injury being commonly observed in end-stage alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) patients. A 6-week murine ethanol (1-6% v/v) model for early-stage ALD combined with carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) treatment was utilized to reveal mechanisms of renal injury. This paradigm yields elevated kidney damage markers when compared to ethanol consumption alone, including elevated urinary KIM-1 in 3 weeks. Hypothesis generating t
