BACKGROUND: The etiology of uterine leiomyomatosis is multifactorial and it is unknown if a relation between anti-Müllerian hormone (hormona anti-mülleriana) and uterine leiomyomatosis exists.

Scrotal leiomyoma is a benign tumor derived from the scrotal dartos muscle; it is rare in clinical findings. The cause of the disease is not yet clear. The most common benign tumour of the oesophagus is leiomyoma. Haemopoietic elements rarely infiltrate oesophageal leiomyoma. We report the case of a 24-year-old man with a long history of intermittent dysphagia. Endoscopy revealed external compression with normal oesophageal mucosa. A barium swallow study showed a defect in the oesophageal wall and a narrow oesophageal lumen. A CT scan of the chest confirmed a mass in the mid-oesophagus. A tumour was excised and the histology report revealed leiomyoma infiltrated with eosinophils, which is a rare variant.

Retroperitoneal leiomyoma is a rare benign tumor of the retroperitoneum. We report a clinical case of a 43-year-old patient, who suffered from back pain and weight loss. Imaging revealed a retroperitoneal mass, then the patient had a total excision of the tumor. Histological examination of the surgical specimen concluded to retroperitoneal leiomyoma. The evolution was good without recurrence after 12 months.

Rare, sporadic uterine leiomyomas arise in the setting of severe metabolic aberration due to a somatic fumarate hydratase mutation. BACKGROUND: Uterine leiomyomata (also known as fibroids) are benign tumors of uterine smooth muscle that are characterized by overproduction of extracellular matrix. Fibroids are the leading indication for hysterectomy in the United States. The active metabolite of vitamin D has been shown to inhibit cell proliferation and extracellular matrix production in fibroid tissue culture and to reduce fibroid volume in the Eker rat. No previous study has examined whether vitamin D is related to fibroid status in women.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Uterine fibroids, the most common neoplasm of reproductive-aged women, can have a significant impact on quality of life, and may affect fertility and pregnancy outcomes. Although it is generally accepted that submucosal fibroids are of clinical significance, the effect of intramural and subserosal fibroids, and the benefit of surgical removal remains an area of active debate. Because of this controversy, this article will review current evidence for an association of fibroids and subfertility, and assess the impact of surgical management on fertility outcomes.

PURPOSE: To examine the importance of self-reported family history of uterine leiomyoma (fibroids) as a marker of risk.
METHODS: Women, aged 35 to 49, were randomly selected from the membership of a large, urban health plan. Participants completed a self-administered questionnaire about family history of fibroids. Authors evaluated the outcome of intracapsular cesarean myomectomy by a prospective case-control study on 68 patients who underwent intracapsular cesarean myomectomy, compared with a control group of 72 patients with myomatosic pregnant uterus who underwent cesarean section (CS) without myomectomy. Mostly of removed myomas were subserous or intramural, fundal in 37 women (54.4%), corporal in 22 (32.3%) and peri-low uterine segment in 9 women (18.7%). The average myoma' size was 8 cm (1.5-20), in 40 women, with 8 myomas measuring 4-6 cm, 14 myomas between 10 and 12 cm and >13 cm in 6 patients.
