OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to reduce the number of diagnoses of atypical glandular cells (AGC). Residual material from the cervical ThinPrep® samples (Hologic, Marlboruogh, MA, USA) was used for cell blocks (CB) and immunohistochemistry (IHC).
METHODS: In 2007 there were 87 patients (0.12% of tests) with AGC on liquid-based cytology (LBC) in the Leiden Cytology and Pathology Laboratory (LCPL) using the Bethesda System 2001 (TBS). INTRODUCTION: Total laparoscopic hysterectomy has been reported as having a higher incidence of vaginal cuff dehiscence compared with the abdominal and/or vaginal hysterectomy. Cytochrome P450 aromatase is the key enzyme in the pathway that converts androgens to estrogens. The enzyme functions in the smooth endoplasmic reticulum in a complex with NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase. OBJECTIVE: To determine the pathological features and clinical implications of atypical glandular cells of undetermined significance (AGC) in cervical cytological results.
METHODS: All 87 cases of cervical cytological examinations with AGC were identified by a computerized database in our patient population. Interferon tau (IFNT), the maternal recognition of pregnancy signal in sheep and other ruminants, is secreted by the conceptus and regulates the expression of a number of genes in a cell-specific manner within the uterus. The response of different endometrial cell types to IFNT appears to be specified by IFN regulatory factors (IRFs). IRF2, a potent repressor of gene transcription, is expressed only by luminal (LE) and superficial glandular epithelia (sGE), whereas IRF1 and IRF9, activators of gene transcription, are expressed only in GE and stromal cells of the uterus during early pregnancy.

BACKGROUND: The relationship between lactobacilli and other microbes and the association with vaginal pH in the female genital tract were examined. The study also included evaluation of the possibility of supplying probiotics to the genital tract by using panty liners impregnated with the probiotic strain Lactobacillus plantarum LB931.
METHODS: This was a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, multicenter study involving 191 healthy fertile women. Specified microbes were counted and vaginal pH was measured once a month for five consecutive months.
