Equal-power Ho:YAG laser energy-frequency modulation during RIRS for renal pelvis stones: 0.3 J × 50 Hz vs. 1.5 J × 10 Hz.

To compare outcomes of two holmium: yttrium–aluminum–garnet (Ho:YAG) laser energy–frequency protocols delivered under equal average power during retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) for renal pelvis stones. We retrospectively reviewed 250 adults undergoing unilateral RIRS for a single renal pelvis stone (10–20 mm) between January 2022 and November 2025. Patients were treated with Ho:YAG lithotripsy at the same average power (~ 15 W) using either 0.3 J × 50 Hz (n = 120) or 1.5 J × 10 Hz (n = 130). All cases were performed with a digital flexible ureterorenoscope and a suction-enabled ureteral a

Renal ultrasonography in healthy Saanen goats: topographic, biometric and echotextural assessment.

This study aimed to establish reference ultrasound values for renal dimensions in healthy dairy goats and to investigate correlations between kidney size and body measurements. Thirty-four clinically healthy lactating Saanen goats underwent standardized ultrasonographic evaluations. The left kidney showed significantly greater length, height, and medullary pyramid dimensions than the right (p < 0.05). No significant differences were observed for other variables (p > 0.05). The right kidney was located in the craniodorsal quadrant between the 12th and 11th intercostal spaces, while the left kid

Development and validation of a novel in vitro porcine model for impacted ureteral stones based on objective pressure gradient assessment.

To establish and validate an isolated model of upper impacted ureteral stone(IUS) in pigs for clinical research on this common disease. Take two sets (4 sides) of urinary system organs from healthy adult pigs. Insert two lumbar spinal anesthesia needles into the renal collecting system and connect them to pressure measurement pipelines and methylene blue solution perfusion pipelines respectively. Make an incision at the upper part of the pig’s ureter and place a certain volume of stones into the ureter. Suture and narrow the ureteral lumen above and below the stones to cause ureteral stenosis

Enhanced Pressure Management Using an Upgraded Vacuum-Assisted Ureteroscopic System: Experimental Validation and Predictive Modeling.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to evaluate the pressure-control performance and irrigation efficiency of an upgraded vacuum-assisted ureteroscopic system (VA-URS) compared with traditional ureteroscopy (T-URS) using an in vitro kidney model. METHODS: An artificial renal pelvis model was used to simulate ureteroscopy under varying irrigation pressures (50, 100, 150 cmH2O) and flow rates (30-50 mL/min). Intrapelvic pressure and effective irrigation flow rates were continuously recorded. Three-way ANOVA assessed the influence of surgical method, irrigation pressure, and flow rate, while

Concurrent Vascular and Pelvic Anomalies of the Kidney: A Rare Cadaveric Observation.

This case report describes the concurrent occurrence of rare renal vascular and pericalyceal variations and highlights their surgical significance. The renal vasculature and pelvis exhibit a wide spectrum of anatomical variations, many of which are clinically and surgically significant. Awareness of these deviations is of immense importance during retroperitoneal and renal surgeries and interventions. This report presents concurrent variations in both renal arteries and veins, as well as the renal pelvis, observed in a cadaver during routine dissection at the All India Institute of Medical Sci

Percutaneous nephrostomy guidance by a convolutional-neural-network-based optical coherence tomography endoscope.

Percutaneous nephrostomy is widely used in kidney access surgeries. Despite its prevalence in urological interventions, it presents two operational challenges: 1) precise needle placement into the renal pelvis; and 2) avoiding hemorrhage from blood vessel rupture. In this study, we developed an endoscopic optical coherence tomography probe for needle navigation. We conducted experiments on thirty-one human kidneys for two aspects: 1) tissue recognition, and 2) blood vessel detection. Experimental results indicated that renal tissues including cortex, medulla, calyx, sinus fat, and pelvis could

Double blind-ending ureter: diagnostic challenges and robotic-assisted surgical management-case report.

BACKGROUND: Double blind-ending ureter (DBU) is an extremely rare congenital anomaly involving a duplicated ureter with no connection to the renal pelvis or bladder, making diagnosis difficult. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 10-year-old girl presented with recurrent abdominal pain and ultrasound evidence of left hydroureteronephrosis. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction revealed a 30 cm blind-ending ureter. Robotic-assisted excision (Da Vinci Xi) was performed safely, preserving adjacent structures. Histology confirmed a nonfunctional ureteral remnant. CONCLUSIONS

Anastomosing hemangioma of the renal pelvis: The first case report from Vietnam.

Anastomosing hemangioma is a rare, histopathologically distinct, benign vascular tumor that preferentially involves the genitourinary tract and the paraspinal region. AH can be misdiagnosed as a malignancy such as renal cell carcinoma or angiosarcoma. We present the case of a 71-year-old female patient who was initially diagnosed with cystic renal cell carcinoma based on computed tomography findings. The patient underwent robotic radical nephrectomy, but the pathologic result was AH of the kidney. There was no evidence of recurrence or metastasis 6 months after the surgery.

Unusual metastatic patterns of urologic malignancies: a case series and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Urologic cancers typically metastasize to common organs, while spread to sites such as the heart, hand, cranial bones, penis, or tonsil is exceedingly rare. The clinical relevance and prognostic impact of these unusual metastases remain unclear. This case series highlights six exceptional cases, providing unique insights to support awareness and management. CASE DESCRIPTION: We retrospectively analyzed six cases of patients diagnosed with urologic cancers who developed metastases at uncommon sites. Each case was evaluated based on clinical presentation, imaging findings, histopath

Afferent innervation of the kidney: projections to and processing in the central nervous system.

FDA approval for catheter-based renal nerve ablation has sparked renewed interest in the role of renal nerves in hypertension and their potential contribution to other pathophysiologies. While the anti-hypertensive effects of catheter-based renal nerve ablation were thought to be due to the ablation of the sympathetic efferent nerves going to the kidney, preclinical hypertensive rodent studies and unexpected beneficial clinical outcomes have highlighted the renal afferent (sensory) nerves as a contributor to the pathogenesis of hypertension. Renal afferents are most abundant in the renal pelvi

Xanthogranulomatous Pyelonephritis Presenting as Significant Hydronephrosis in an Adult Male Who Was Managed with Robotic-Assisted Radical Nephrectomy: A Case Report and Current Literature Review.

Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XGP) is an infection of the kidney that often results from a chronic obstruction, such as a kidney stone. We present a patient with a massively enlarged left renal pelvis with minimal renal parenchyma presenting as an end stage ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO). The patient was afebrile during his time in the emergency room (ER). Urinalysis was significant for trace leukocyte esterase and 11-20 WBCs. His creatinine during his ER encounter was 1.02. Due to his normal creatinine, a percutaneous nephrostomy tube was not placed. Preoperatively, we did no

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation-related renal vein and multivisceral organ injuries: a rare forensic autopsy case.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a vital life-saving intervention but may result in various traumatic injuries, particularly with vigorous or prolonged efforts. Although visceral injuries are uncommon, they can be fatal. In this report, we present a rare postmortem case demonstrating multiple internal injuries-including pericardial and myocardial lacerations, liver laceration, and renal pelvis and renal vein injury-following CPR. A 70-year-old male was found unresponsive on the roadside and transported to the emergency department, where CPR was initiated due to cardiac arrest. Despite al

A Rare Case of Laparoscopic Removal of a Giant Renal Pelvic Pus Clot Caused by Citrobacter Freundii Infection.

It is extremely rare for renal pelvic pus clot with a diameter of 3 cm that formed by purulent secretions due to bacterial infection. A 37-year-old female patient developed a giant renal pelvic pus clot with a diameter of 3 cm 5 months after percutaneous nephrolithotomy, caused by Citrobacter freundii infection, resulting in lower back pain and fever. Due to the lack of specialized tissue pulverizers for percutaneous nephrolithotomy, laparoscopic pyelotomy via intraperitoneal approach removed the giant renal pelvis pus clot. However, it was found that some small pus clots had formed around the

Buccal Mucosa a Narrative Review: How Does It Work, How Is It Used, What Is Coming Next.

Buccal mucosa grafts (BMG) have become the standard for complex urethral reconstruction due to unique regenerative properties, including rapid re-epithelialization, minimal inflammation, and tightly controlled fibroblast action that results in "scarless healing". These characteristics reflect fetal-like wound healing phenotypes with distinct fibroblast subpopulations and favorable inflammatory profiles. BMG have applications across the genitourinary tract from renal pelvis to external genitalia. Emerging technologies-tissue-engineered oral mucosal substitutes, extracellular vesicles, and organ
