PURPOSE: Boari flap reconstruction is effective for unilateral ureteral strictures (1-5), but its use for bilateral disease is rarely reported. Robotic surgery offers enhanced visualization and dexterity for complex ureteral reconstruction (4, 6-9). We describe robotic totally intracorporeal bilateral Boari flap (BBF) reconstruction for bilateral mid- and distal ureteral strictures (BMDUS).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A 42-year-old woman with BMDUS underwent BBF reconstruction. The left ureter was dissected, ligated, and transected proximal to the stricture, then trimmed to healthy tissue until a

Renal injury is relatively uncommon among pediatric patients who incur blunt abdominal trauma. Noninvasive management is recommended for hemodynamically stable patients with a renal injury; however, there is limited data on the use of endourologic procedures in the management of pediatric renal trauma. We present a pediatric patient with a grade 4 renal laceration treated with a ureteral stent and percutaneous drain placement, supporting the use of minimally invasive strategies in select pediatric patients with high-grade renal injuries.

Vaginal insertion of an ectopic ureter is a rare anomaly causing continuous incontinence despite normal voiding. We report a 30-year-old woman with lifelong urinary leakage that remained unrecognized until adulthood. Computed tomography urography revealed a left duplex collecting system with an ectopic ureter draining the upper renal pole into the vagina. She underwent successful ureterovesical reimplantation using the Politano-Leadbetter technique, achieving immediate and complete continence. This case emphasizes the need for meticulous evaluation in adults with chronic incontinence to allow

OBJECTIVES: Urological involvement is common in gynecologic oncology because of the close anatomical relationship between the urinary and reproductive systems. However, comprehensive data on the indications and outcomes of urological procedures in this setting remain limited. This review provides a structured overview of urological reconstructive techniques in gynecologic oncology and proposes a practical management algorithm based on current evidence and institutional experience. A literature review was conducted using PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Central Register of Contr

Ureterorenoscopic lithotripsy (URSL) has become the gold-standard procedure for management of ureteric calculi. Ancillary stone-retrieval instruments such as triprong and biprong forceps facilitate fragment extraction; however, mechanical failure of these devices during active use is a recognized, albeit rarely documented, intraoperative hazard. We describe a 68-year-old woman who underwent left-sided URSL for a 1 cm upper ureteric calculus at the L4 vertebral level. During stone-fragment retrieval, the distal prongs of a triprong forceps sheared off within the ureter. The retained fragment wa

Background Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is the standard treatment for large renal calculi, and the use of an intracorporeal lithotripter strongly influences its success. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness and safety of ultrasonic-with-ballistic lithotripsy (hereafter the combined device) and pneumatic lithotripsy during PCNL in a tertiary-care hospital in Bangladesh. Methods In this prospective, non-randomized quasi-experimental study, 52 adults aged 18-70 years with renal calculi 2-4 cm in size who underwent PCNL between January 2022 and December 2022 were enrolled and alloc

BACKGROUND: Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich syndrome (HWWS) is a rare congenital Müllerian anomaly characterized by uterus didelphys, obstructed hemivagina, and ipsilateral renal anomaly. Recurrence after prior surgical treatment is particularly rare. We report a complex recurrent case of obstructed hemivagina in a patient with HWWS and duplicated vagina, successfully managed with a staged surgical approach.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 19-year-old woman with a history of two prior vaginal septum resections and excision of a perineal mass (histopathology confirming ectopic colonic tissue) presented with rec

BACKGROUND: An ectopic intrauterine device (IUD) can rarely cause ureteral obstruction and hydroureteronephrosis. Diagnosis may be delayed when a prior removal procedure is believed to have been complete.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 48-year-old woman presented with a 1-year history of right flank pain and urinary frequency after repeated treatment for presumed urinary tract infection and possible genitourinary tuberculosis without sustained improvement. More than 20 years earlier, an IUD had been inserted before uterus didelphys was recognized. Two to three years later, an unintended pregnancy led t

BACKGROUND: En bloc resection of bladder tumor provides improved specimen quality compared with conventional transurethral resection of bladder tumor; however, periorifice tumors remain technically challenging due to the risk of ureteral injury. We reviewed the perioperative and short-term outcomes of patients who underwent guidewire-assisted en bloc resection for periorifice non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer.
METHODS: In this retrospective case series, we included patients with non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer located within 1 cm of the ureteral orifice who underwent guidewire-assisted en

Urinary tract endometriosis is rare, and ureteral involvement is particularly insidious due to its asymptomatic nature. The absence of symptoms can lead to ureteral stricture, hydronephrosis, chronic kidney disease up to end-stage renal failure, and irreversible loss of kidney function. Diagnosis requires imaging methods to assess the degree of obstruction, while treatment involves surgical release of the ureter from endometriotic infiltrates to preserve organ function. Our observation illustrates the difficulty of establishing the etiology of a retroperitoneal tumor-like infiltrate leading to

The ureter is an important conduit between the kidney and the bladder and is frequently imaged to rule out cancer in the upper genitourinary tract. However, while malignancy can occur, a spectrum of other pathologic ureteral findings can exist, and these can be divided into congenital, intrinsic, and extrinsic abnormalities that range from postoperative and neoplastic conditions to inflammatory disease. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the ureter, including the ureteral anatomy, ureteral imaging strategies, and various ureteral conditions and their associated imaging features.

INTRODUCTION: We present a unique case of MURCs (Mullerian duct, Renal and Cervico-thoracic somite dysplasia) association with an ectopic ureter in a paediatric patient.
CASE SUMMARY: A 9-year-old female presented with urinary incontinence secondary to an ectopic ureter. Further imaging lead to the diagnosis of MURCs association. The patient was successfully treated with a laparoscopic right nephro-uretectomy. Ongoing management will be required for her orthopaedic and gynaecological anomalies.
CONCLUSION: MURCs association is a rare constellation of congenital anomalies, usually only detect

As laparoscopic techniques continue to advance, intraoperative tissue visualization has become increasingly important. In gynecological oncology, sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping remains a critical procedure for assessing lymph node metastasis and guiding lymphadenectomy. Meanwhile, iatrogenic ureteral injury, although rare, can have severe consequences. Thus, achieving rapid, reliable, and cost-effective intraoperative visualization of both SLNs and the ureters during laparoscopy poses a significant clinical challenge. Near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) imaging has emerged as a promising solu

BACKGROUND: Iatrogenic ureteral injury (IUI) is a rare but serious complication of abdominal and pelvic surgery, often leading to substantial morbidity and additional surgical interventions. This study aimed to evaluate the association of the diagnostic pathway (intraoperative diagnosis with immediate repair versus postoperative diagnosis with delayed repair) with perioperative and functional outcomes.
METHODS: In this study, 92 patients who underwent reconstructive surgery for IUI between 2015 and 2025 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were stratified into early and delayed repair
