BACKGROUND: Caraparu virus (Orthobunyavirus caraparuense) is a poorly described tropical South American arbovirus. Diagnosing acute undifferentiated febrile illness in the Amazon remains a challenge for travel medicine practitioners.
CASE REPORT: We report the case of a French soldier deployed in French Guiana who developed acute self-limited fever and headache associated with mild leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, and hepatic cytolysis during a several-day mission in the Amazon rainforest.
