Changing Clinical Spectrum of Invasive Meningococcal Disease in France (2014-2025): Impact of Age and Meningococcal Lineage on Atypical Presentations.

Invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) is classically associated with meningitis and septic shock, but an increasing proportion of cases present with atypical, extra-meningeal manifestations. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, major epidemiological shifts have occurred in France, including a rebound in IMD incidence and changes in circulating serogroups and clonal complexes. We conducted a nationwide retrospective study including all laboratory-confirmed IMD cases analysed by the French National Reference Centre between July 2014 and June 2025. Clinical presentations were coded as non-exclusive en

Vaccinations to Prevent Infections in Adult Individuals With CKD and After Kidney Transplantation: A Review.

Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), especially those undergoing dialysis, are at high risk of infections that lead to hospitalizations, morbidity, and mortality. Influenza, pneumococcal pneumonia, and respiratory syncytial virus infections account for a significant proportion of typical infectious complications and are preventable by vaccination. The immune system is weakened in CKD, reducing vaccination efficacy. Additionally, some patients with CKD receive immunosuppressive medications. The reduced seroreactivity to various vaccines must be considered when selecting vaccines, vaccine

Beyond the Central Nervous System: Neisseria meningitidis as an Unusual Cause of Urogenital Infection.

Neisseria meningitidis is a well-known cause of invasive diseases such as meningitis and septicemia, but is increasingly recognized as an emerging urogenital pathogen. We report the case of a 36-year-old man who presented to a tertiary hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with persistent dysuria and purulent urethral discharge. Despite initial treatment for nonspecific urethritis and subsequent management for chronic prostatitis with levofloxacin and azithromycin, his symptoms persisted. Although standard multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays for common sexually transmitted infections

Meningococcal carriage and transmission dynamics in college students in Louisville, Kentucky.

BACKGROUND: Neisseria meningitidis is a cause of meningitis and outbreaks of it among young adults, especially college students. Rates of nasopharyngeal colonization and prevalence of specific capsular groups vary with age, geography as well as time, and may be influenced by meningococcal vaccination. The objective of this study was to measure the change in colonization rate, and define which meningococcal genogroups were present, in college students over a 3-month semester. METHODS: This was a prospective, longitudinal cohort study with sequential oropharyngeal swabbing among college student

Pathogenicity variation of CC4821 Neisseria meningitidis in China from 2005 to 2024.

Neisseria meningitidis (N. meningitidis) is the causative agent of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD). In China, clonal complex 4821 (CC4821) has become the predominant lineage of N. meningitidis over the past two decades. However, the differences in pathogenicity between CC4821 serogroups B and C strains remain unexplored. This study evaluated the distribution and pathogenicity of CC4821 isolates collected between 2005 and 2024 based on sources, serogroups, and time of isolation, including adhesion and invasion, and the ability to induce inflammatory responses and apoptosis. Results showed
