The Multivariate Relationship Between Academic Stress and Academic Integrity-Related Constructs Among Prelicensure Nursing Students.

AIM: To examine the multivariate relationship between academic stress factors and academic integrity-related constructs in prelicensure nursing students. BACKGROUND: Academic stress may challenge students' ethical decision-making and adherence to academic integrity, yet comparative evidence across regions remains limited. METHOD: Using a descriptive correlational design guided by moral reckoning theory, 132 prelicensure nursing students from two Middle Eastern and two US nursing schools. Canonical correlation analysis examined associations between stress domains and integrity-related constru

Androgen receptors in a neural circuit from the medial amygdala to the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis regulate responses to social challenges.

Androgen receptor (AR) signaling in the posterior medial amygdala (MeP) plays a critical role in promoting resistance to social defeat stress in dominant male Syrian hamsters. The MeP is densely interconnected with the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BNST), and the MeP-BNST pathway is essential for regulating aggression and responses to social threats. Here, we tested the hypothesis that AR signaling within MeP-BNST projection neurons is required for stress resistance in dominant animals. We first used a short hairpin RNA (shRNA) virus to reduce AR expression in MeP neurons. Male and fema

Monitoring Nursing Students' Stress Levels During High-Fidelity Simulation Using an Electronic Wristband Device.

Simulation can effectively enhance the clinical reasoning skills of nursing students. However, it can also lead to increased stress levels with a potential impact on learning outcomes. We monitored nursing students' stress using the E4 © wristband and evaluated the effects of a brief debriefing intervention on stress and overall satisfaction during simulation. Using a randomized controlled study design, we collected quantitative data and real-time stress measurements. Tailored debriefing interventions have the potential to improve overall well-being and learning satisfaction.

Exercise first: Acute aerobic exercise before practice selectively enhances spatial outcomes of motor learning - A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Acute aerobic exercise (AAE) has been shown to influence motor learning outcomes, but previous studies have typically focused on overall performance measures, leaving it unclear whether spatial and temporal components are differentially affected. In addition, the impact of exercise timing and intensity on these effects has not yet been investigated. This pre-registered meta-analysis aimed to evaluate these effects. A systematic search of four databases (Web of Science, ERIC, MEDLINE, SPORTDiscus) identified 18 studies including 657 participants. Spatial and temporal outcomes of motor learning

Mindfulness Matters: Enhancing Mental Health and Reducing Stress in Nursing Students.

This phenomenological study explored undergraduate nursing students' experiences in a critical care course, focusing on mindfulness and stress management. Reflections over 15 weeks were analyzed using the Sort and Sift, Think and Shift method. Findings revealed initial high stress and poor mental health, followed by gradual development of coping strategies. Students demonstrated a shift in tone and mindset, gaining deeper insights as they processed emotions. Three themes emerged: goal setting, coping, and mindfulness. Mindfulness practices fostered resilience and well-being, highlighting their

Do rodent social hierarchy assays measure social dominance or task performance?

Social hierarchy is a critical variable in rodent models of stress psychopathology and is often assessed using simplified competitive paradigms. These tasks frequently lack sufficient construct validity for social dominance, limiting interpretations of the neural mechanisms underlying social behavior. Advances in behavioral tracking now permit more ethologically grounded assessments of social dominance and provide a superior alternative to study social dominance.

Relationship between stress and job burnout among Olympic and Paralympic coaches: Moderated mediation effects by job status, social support, and self-efficacy.

Stress is a well-established antecedent of job burnout, while social support and self-efficacy serve as key protective resources whose roles may vary by employment status, a dimension that remains underexplored in research on coaches' burnout. The current study aimed to examine the mediation effects of social support and self-efficacy on the relationship between stress and job burnout, as well as to analyze the moderating effect of permanent/temporary job status. A total of 231 coaches registered with the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee and the Korean Paralympic Committee were recruited for t

How visual information explains variance in visual perspective at autobiographical retrieval.

Variance in visual perspective during autobiographical retrieval has received considerable attention. This phenomenon refers to the capacity to recall past events from a first-person visual perspective, a third-person visual perspective, or even multiple perspectives. Although many studies have identified factors that correlate with this variance at retrieval, significantly less effort has been devoted to constructing a model that integrates and explains these various correlations. This paper aims to address this gap by integrating two previous models into a single one, the visual information

Conflict-Dependent Gain Control in Area VIP during Visual-Vestibular Self-Motion Processing.

Visual and vestibular signals are continuously integrated to estimate self-motion, yet these sensory cues are often inconsistent under natural conditions. How cortical circuits regulate multisensory interactions under cue conflict while preserving stable heading representations remains poorly understood. Here, we recorded neurons in male macaque ventral intraparietal area (VIP) during passive movement stimulation while systematically varying visual-vestibular heading offsets. VIP neurons exhibited strong conflict-sensitive gain modulation: congruent cues enhanced neuronal responses, whereas in

Workplace discrimination in relation to mental well-being and suicidal ideation.

Despite many individuals experiencing discrimination at work, research elucidating the implications of workplace discrimination for mental health is limited. We aimed to estimate the hypothesised dose-response relationships of frequency and number of types of discrimination at work with poor mental well-being and suicidal ideation. We analysed cross-sectional data from 2594 participants (57% male, mean age: 42.3 years, response rate 14.3%) of the 2021 wave of a study examining job quality and well-being in Luxembourg. Participants were asked how often they were exposed to discrimination due to

Assessing spoken discourse in aphasia using multimodal artificial intelligence.

Discourse analysis can reliably predict real-world communicative success, yet is rarely implemented clinically, due to challenges in manually generating stimulus-specific main concept inventories (MCIs) and scoring patient narratives. We evaluated whether automatically derived macrolinguistic (main concept, sentiment) and microlinguistic (fluency, lexical, syntactic) features extracted from movie clip narrations can augment the clinical assessment of discourse in aphasia. The MCIs generated directly from each clip's video, audio and subtitles using a vision-language model approximated the main

Factors associated with emerging adult self-disclosure and discussion of physical and psychological chronic health conditions.

The current study investigated the disclosure decision-making processes of emerging adults with physical and psychological chronic health conditions (CHCs). Emerging adults (N = 460, Mage = 21.90) with one or more CHCs completed the Illness Identity Questionnaire, the Satisfaction With Life Scale, and open-ended questions via online survey. Half of all participants reported regularly discussing their CHCs, regardless of condition type (i.e. physical vs psychological). Regular discussion of CHCs was associated with higher satisfaction with life, greater acceptance and enrichment illness identit

Profiles of multisource support and teaching efficacy among teachers in Chinese private universities: a latent profile analysis.

Teaching efficacy is an important psychological belief concerning teachers' judgments of instructional capability and effectiveness. Most existing research on workplace support received by teachers has adopted a variable-centered approach, focusing primarily on average associations between individual sources of support and teacher outcomes, while paying less attention to heterogeneity in how multisource support resources are configured within teachers. Using survey data from 400 teachers at six private universities in Qingdao, China, this study treated emotional and material support from the o

The effectiveness of physical activity interventions on non-physiological symptoms of menopause: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

IMPORTANCE: Women in the menopause transition (MT) commonly experience mood disturbances, anxiety, cognitive complaints, and reduced quality of life (QoL). Yet access to pharmacological or psychological treatments may be limited or unsuitable for some. Identifying and accessing non-pharmacological interventions is therefore an important clinical and public health priority. OBJECTIVE: To synthesize evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCT) evaluating the effectiveness of physical activity (PA) interventions for improving depression, anxiety, mood, cognition, stress, and QoL in women dur

Effect of an auditory static distractor on the perception of an auditory moving target.

It is known that listeners lose the ability to discriminate the direction of motion of a revolving sound (clockwise vs counterclockwise) beyond a critical velocity ["the upper limit (UL)"], likely due to degraded front-back discrimination. Little is known about how this ability is affected by simultaneously present distractor sounds, despite the real-life importance of tracking moving sounds in the presence of distractors. We hypothesized that the presence of a static distractor sound would impair the perception of moving target sounds and reduce the UL and show that this is indeed the case. A

Maximizing mutual information in multi-view representation learning for next POI prediction.

Next point-of-interest (POI) prediction is a fundamental task in spatiotemporal data mining, aiming to facilitate personalized location-based services through modeling individual mobility trajectories. Despite recent advances in deep neural networks for capturing human mobility patterns from both short- and long-term trajectories, accurate POI prediction remains challenging due to the fragility of short-term intent representations and user preference drift. These challenges arise from intent inconsistency between stable long-term behavioral patterns and transient short-term contingencies, as w
