The Mediating Role of Maladaptive Coping in the Association Between Neuroticism and Family Accommodation in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

OBJECTIVE: Family accommodation, in which relatives facilitate obsessive-compulsive symptoms, is highly prevalent in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and associated with poor treatment outcomes. Although neuroticism and maladaptive coping have been linked to OCD severity, the mechanisms by which personality traits relate to family accommodation remain poorly understood. This study examined associations between neuroticism, coping strategies, symptom severity, and family accommodation in OCD, and tested whether maladaptive coping mediates the neuroticism-family accommodation association. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Recognition Using the fNIRS Dual-Attention Network.

BACKGROUND: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a prevalent psychological disorder that can impair daily functioning and mental health. Current clinical assessment mainly relies on structured interviews and symptom scales, which may introduce subjectivity and inter-rater variability. Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) provides a noninvasive approach for measuring task-evoked hemodynamic responses and may offer objective physiological information for auxiliary PTSD recognition. NEW METHOD: This study proposes an end-to-end deep learning framework, the fNIRS Dual Attention Netwo

Trauma and "spiritual resilience" among Internally Displaced Women (IDW) victims of violence in the commune of Dédougou, Burkina Faso.

CONTEXT: Since 2015, Burkina Faso has been ravaged by the violence of armed terrorist groups (JNIM, EIGS), resulting in over 2 million internally displaced persons. In the Boucle du Mouhoun region, 63.17% of internally displaced persons (IDPs) are women (84,649 out of 133,994 in 2023). As prime targets of armed conflict, they suffer multifaceted violence used as a weapon of psychological warfare against communities. METHODS: The study uses a convergent mixed-methods design conducted in October 2023 in the commune of Dédougou. The total sample size is 1,056 participants, including 1,015 IDPs s

Serum gonadal steroid reactivity to acute psychosocial stress in panic disorder patients.

Knowledge on the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis reactivity to acute psychosocial stress remains limited. The current study evaluated whether testosterone, progesterone, and estradiol increase in response to the Trier Social Stress Test (TSST), and whether these responses are attenuated in panic disorder (PD) patients compared to healthy controls (HC), given the reported hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis hyporesponsiveness in PD. Two sex- and age-matched groups (n = 30 HC, n = 30 PD; n = 19 women and n = 11 men per group) underwent the TSST. Serum gonadal steroids were measur

Atrial fibrillation cryoablation complicated by diffuse coronary artery vasospasm and cardiac arrest: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is recommended for rhythm control in selected patients with symptomatic atrial fibrillation (AF). Coronary artery spasm (CAS) is a rare but recognized complication of AF ablation and may result in life-threatening arrhythmias. CASE SUMMARY: A 47-year-old man underwent cryoballoon PVI for symptomatic paroxysmal AF. Transient inferior ST-segment elevation occurred following left-sided PVI and resolved spontaneously. Shortly after completion of the procedure, recurrent ST-segment elevation developed, progressed to malignant ventricular arrhythmia and ca

Combat injury and limb amputation moderate the association between mental health and sympathetic activity.

BACKGROUND: Combat-related traumatic injury (CRTI) can increase sympathetic nervous system (SNS) activity, with poor mental health possibly worsening this effect. Increased SNS activity is associated with CVD risk. We examined the ADVANCE cohort to assess whether the effect of mental health on sympathetic activity differs in injured servicemen with and without associated limb loss and a frequency-matched uninjured group. METHODS: The primary outcome was the SNS index (SNSi) measured via a single-lead 5-min electrocardiogram recording and analysed in Kubios software. The exposure variables wer

Relative Contributions of Gastrointestinal-Specific Hypervigilance and Anxiety in Explaining Eating Disorder Symptoms.

OBJECTIVE: Gastrointestinal (GI) disturbances and eating disorder symptoms commonly co-occur. Hypervigilance and anxiety about GI symptoms may motivate eating disorder behaviors to manage and/or avoid GI symptoms. We hypothesized that GI-specific anxiety would be more strongly associated with dietary restriction and purging than GI-specific hypervigilance. Further, we hypothesized that distinguishing between GI-specific anxiety and hypervigilance would have incremental validity over using an existing measure of GI-anxiety and related constructs initially developed for patients with irritable b

Impact of Information Overload on Fear of Disease Progression in Surgical Patients: Serial Mediation by Decisional Conflict and Generalized Anxiety.

This study investigates how information overload influences fear of disease progression among 579 surgical patients at a tertiary hospital in China, specifically examining the independent and serial mediating effects of decisional conflict and generalized anxiety. Using validated scales and a chain mediation model with bias-corrected bootstrapping, the results demonstrate that information overload significantly predicts increased decisional conflict, anxiety, and fear of disease progression. Path analysis confirmed a significant direct effect of information overload on fear, while also identif

Exploration of the relationship between social cognition and PTSD using data from the ALSPAC cohort.

BACKGROUND AND HYPOTHESIS: Previous studies have shown an association between social cognition (emotion recognition, social perception, attributional style, and mentalization) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but there have been no longitudinal studies on this topic. We hypothesize that childhood social cognitive differences are associated with subsequent trauma exposure and PTSD. STUDY DESIGN: Data from the Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) were used. The Social Communications Disorder Checklist (SCDC) at age 7.5 years, the Diagnostic Analysis of Non-Verbal Accura

Altered Dorsolateral Prefrontal Glutamate Dynamics During Working Memory in Trauma-Exposed Individuals With and Without PTSD: A 7T Functional Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Study.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has been associated with impairments in cognitive function, including working memory, and may involve altered glutamatergic regulation in the prefrontal cortex. In this study, we used 7T functional magnetic resonance spectroscopy (fMRS) to examine dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) glutamate during working memory in individuals with PTSD, trauma exposure without PTSD (TE), and no trauma exposure (NT). Eighty participants (27 PTSD, 27 TE, 26 NT) underwent baseline MRS followed by fMRS during a letter n-back task. A linear mixed-effects model was used to

The impact of post-traumatic amnesia in patients with acquired brain injury on caregivers' psychological distress.

Caregivers of patients with acquired brain injury (ABI) often experience psychological distress, yet trauma-related responses remain underexplored. Post-traumatic amnesia (PTA), characterized by confusion and behavioural disturbances, may represent a particularly stressful experience for family members. This study examined the impact of PTA on post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS), anxiety, and depression in caregivers of patients with ABI. In this cross-sectional observational study, 76 caregivers of patients with moderate-to-severe ABI were divided into three groups based on patients' PTA st

Moral Injury and Mental Health Consequences in Active-duty Soldiers: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Cross-sectional Surveys.

INTRODUCTION: Moral injury (MI), defined as perceived betrayals or violations of one's moral values, causes psychological distress in active-duty soldiers (ADS), and it is associated with various mental health (MH) issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depression. Although some quantitative reviews have examined the association between MI and MH outcomes in the military population, primarily among veterans, none of the studies focused specifically on ADS. This systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to address the research gap. METHODS: We reviewed publ
