Self-compassion's impact on perceived stress and perseverative thinking as it relates to sleep quality among college students.

Self-compassion interventions have shown promise in improving sleep quality, but their effects have been modest, inviting more research into underlying mechanisms. This study examined whether perceived stress and perseverative thinking (rumination and worry) explain the link between self-compassion and sleep quality. A sample of 340 undergraduates completed validated measures of self-compassion, perceived stress, rumination, worry, and sleep quality. In simple mediation models, each cognitive-affective factor accounted for significant indirect associations. However, in a parallel mediation mod

Quieting "Food Noise": How GLP-1s and Mindfulness Rewire the Default Mode Network (DMN) and Reward Circuits.

This narrative review synthesizes evidence identified through targeted searches of PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science (2010-2025), with a focused selection of human and mechanistic studies examining GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1s), food cue reactivity, prospective cognition, mindfulness-based interventions, and neural network dynamics relevant to 'food noise' and the default mode network (DMN). Food noise is conceptualized here as a form of maladaptive prospection: a faulty way of thinking about the future, characterized by repetitive, cue-driven mental simulation of short-term reward at the

Influence of different floor types on the behavior, growth performance, and morphometric traits of male beetal kids.

This research was conducted to investigate the impact of various flooring types on the behavior and growth performance of Beetal goat kids. Three types of floors: soil floor (SF), wooden slatted floor (WSF), and plastic slatted floor (PSF) were the treatments. A total of 36 male Beetal goat kids weighing 20 ± 3 kg at the age of 6–7 months were assigned at random to a particular treatment having 4 replicates of three animals each for 70 days. Data recording was applied after an adaptation of 10 days in their respective treatments. All kids were tagged, de-wormed, and vaccinated as per farm prot

The effect of state negative affect on post-error performance recovery.

Previous studies demonstrate that individuals with major depressive disorder (MDD) exhibit difficulties responding accurately on trials directly after committing an error (Elliot et al., 1996; 1997; Pizzagalli et al., 2006). The current presumption is that heightened negative affect (NA) in response to errors leads to impaired performance monitoring and improvement. However, this pathway has yet to be tested. The current study sought to address this gap, in a nonclinical sample, by examining whether NA and rumination predicted post-error performance. Participants (N = 124) completed a measure

Age differences in neural discriminability of rumination and worry.

Emotional thought patterns such as rumination, worry, and positive reflection are rooted in autobiographical memory and influence well-being. However, their neural representations and how they vary remain poorly understood. This study examined brain activation patterns linked to rumination, worry, and positive thinking in adults aged 18-64. Participants recalled autobiographical events during fMRI, and machine learning was used to decode whole-brain activation patterns. Results showed that neural differentiation of rumination and worry increased with age. Greater age was associated with increa

Association between event-related disclosure and posttraumatic growth: Targeting Japanese people, measuring attitudes toward disclosure, and examining event-related rumination as a mediating variable.

This study examined the association between event-related disclosure and posttraumatic growth (PTG). Specifically, it targeted the Japanese adult, assessed attitudes toward event-related disclosure, and examined event-related rumination as a mediating variable. A cross-sectional online survey was conducted among Japanese adults aged 20-59. Participants completed measures of demographic characteristics, stressful life events attributes, attitudes toward disclosure, event-related rumination, and PTG. Analysis of data from 480 individuals revealed that neither willingness to disclose nor resistan

Links between central visual field loss and movement processing during walking.

BACKGROUND: Central visual field loss (CFL) is the most common irreversible visual impairment in aging and is associated with higher fall risk and concerns about falling. This study explored the links between CFL severity, functional balance, and walking-related attentional processing implicated in reduced gait performance. METHODS: In Study 1, 29 individuals with CFL and 29 age-matched controls completed the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test. In Study 2, 10 CFL participants and 10 controls performed the TUG while acceleration data were collected from head and trunk IMUs. For both studies, we assess

The trajectory of depressive and anxiety symptom networks across pregnancy: A large-scale longitudinal study of 41,140 women.

BACKGROUND: Depression and anxiety are highly comorbid during pregnancy, yet their symptom patterns may vary across gestational stages. Most existing studies rely on cross-sectional designs and overlook the dynamic interplay of symptoms over time. This study employs both cross-sectional and longitudinal network analyses to identify core and bridge symptoms and explore their temporal evolution throughout pregnancy. METHODS: A total of 41,140 pregnant women in Shenzhen, China, were assessed between 2020 and 2022 during early, mid, and late pregnancy. Depressive and anxiety symptoms were measure

A Snapshot of Australian Adolescents Eco-anxiety and Impairments to Mental Well-Being.

PURPOSE: To examine the prevalence of eco-anxiety and its four dimensions (affective symptoms, rumination, behavioral symptoms, and personal impact anxiety) among adolescents, particularly among those belonging to minoritized groups (based on sex, parental education, language spoken at home, and disability status), and to examine the extent to which eco-anxiety relates to poorer mental well-being, conceptualized as the absence of positive mental well-being (e.g., positive emotions) and the presence of negative well-being (e.g., depression symptoms). METHODS: More than 10,000 Australian second

Electrocortical Reactivity to Emotional Faces in Youth of Depressed Mothers: The Moderating Role of Emotion Regulation Styles.

Children of depressed mothers are at significantly high risk (HR) for developing major depressive disorder (MDD) compared to their low risk (LR) counterparts. Evidence shows that HR youth exhibit a reduced late positive potential (LPP), an electroencephalogram (EEG) marker of emotional reactivity, in response to social-emotional stimuli. However, it remains unknown how emotion regulation (ER) styles may impact LPP responses in HR and LR offspring. The current study sought to examine the interplay of ER strategies (i.e., rumination, cognitive reappraisal, and suppression) and maternal history o

Behavioral and electrophysiological evidence of reward processing deficits in repetitive negative thinking: Implications for depression.

BACKGROUND: Anhedonia and rumination, a form of repetitive negative thinking (RNT), are key features of depression associated with poor treatment outcomes, chronic disease progression, and an increased risk of suicidality. Although their interaction is thought to sustain depressive states, the state-level mechanisms linking these symptoms remain poorly understood. METHODS: In this multilevel, randomized within-subjects study, 62 individuals (n = 38 females) with varying levels of depressive symptoms completed the Probabilistic Reward Task (PRT) under two conditions: experimentally induced RNT

Characterising symptom clusters: examining profiles of somatic symptoms and their psychosocial predictors among chinese youths using longitudinal data with a machine learning approach.

OBJECTIVE: Somatic symptoms (SS) pose public health burdens, but it remains unclear whether SS should be defined by overall severity or specific symptoms. Therefore, we aimed to identify SS profiles and explore how psychosocial predictors shape these profiles based on the biopsychosocial model. METHODS AND MEASURES: From October to December 2020, Chinese college students (n = 598) completed three waves of survey on SS and psychosocial predictors. We used cluster analysis to identify SS profiles, classification and regression tree (CART) to examine psychosocial predictors, and the area under t

Reconceptualizing co-rumination: A novel theoretical and multidisciplinary perspective.

Co-rumination is a social emotion regulation strategy characterized by extensive and exhaustive discussions of stressors, problems, and negative emotions with another person. While research establishing the costs and benefits associated with co-rumination has been formative, the focus on explaining heightened internalizing symptoms and increased relationship quality (i.e., the "tradeoff hypothesis") in mostly adolescent friendships needs to be expanded. Through a social psychological lens, we pave a way forward by offering a new theoretical conceptualization of co-rumination that emphasizes th

The relationship between online self-disclosure and individual posttraumatic growth under public health emergencies: A moderated mediation model.

This study examined the relationship between online self-disclosure and posttraumatic growth (PTG) during public health emergencies, focusing on underlying mechanisms. A moderated mediation model was developed, incorporating deliberate rumination as a mediator and perceived positive feedback as a moderator. Data were collected from 559 college students using the COVID Stress Scale, Online Self-Disclosure Scale, Deliberate Rumination Scale, Perceived Positive Feedback Scale, and PTG Scale. Results showed that online self-disclosure directly and positively predicted PTG and indirectly influenced
